I abused my bank acct. earlier this month to attend an expo. I am determined to finish repairing /refitting my boat before buying any more slings. Hobbies are expensive.

Yeah, unfortunately, having tarantulas again reminded me that I also used to love plants. I used to have quite the butterfly garden outside, but, spouse kept 'accidentally' mowing it. I bought a few houseplants to use in tarantulas enclosures and that's been a slippery slope into a houseplant problem.. lol It turns out there's fancy ones that are crazy expensive, not just Lowe's houseplants.. lol You know, then it also turns out you need a macro lens now and so on.

I'm trying to come up with a reasonable hobby budget after being pretty spend-happy the last couple months. In my defense, I spent the last several years finishing a BS degree and moving straight into a grad degree while working fulltime and spent no hobby money during that time.

With what I do, there are some periodic gigs here and there I could take reviewing university materials, so, I finally quit being lazy and signed up. I figure maybe the gig money will be my hobby money to sort of keep a handle on it.

Good luck finishing your boat! I have some family members refurbing a sailboat right now. I tried to convince spouse to move far enough north to be out of gator range. Unfortunately, my style of boating is a 5 AM kayak paddle- but, tired of bumping gators, the stress will kill me.. lol I don't mind all the water snakes and so on, but, I'm never kayaking in Florida again. You don't know if it's something lovely like a manatee playing with your kayak or an alligator. I live half a mile from a boat ramp on the St Johns river, so probably should just get into bigger boats, but, I'm definitely done kayaking/canoeing here.

My boat is an old fiberglass bass boat with a soft transom.I am estimating a cost of between $500-$600 to repair the transom (materials and tools,$220 of that will be for an engine hoist to pull the outoard). Next species to obtain once boat is functional again, Chilobrachys Fimbriatus.

There was a show today (I couldn't attend, I'm sick at home with a nasty cold) where a friend picked up an order for me:
B. cabocla (which I believe was renamed to B. horrida)
M. robustum
Holothele sp. "Saint-Martin"
P. muticus

And last but not least, X. immanis:

It's only the second molt so far, which means it will be great to see grow up in time. Hopefully female!

Just placed an order since my favorite vendor is having a Halloween sale. Going heavy into some old worlds this time: C. fimbriatus, C. sp. electric blue x2, E. murinus, H. pulchripes, P. sazimai, and freebie H. maculata. I'll definitely post pictures when they come in.

Finally got one. A pink toe Avicularia avicularia from Fin and Feather in Lakeside VA. Couldn't pass up the price for the size and such a chill T. Picked up yesterday and devoured a cricket today. I have a shelf inside my leopard tortoise enclosure so it's 82 degrees and 70% humidity. I figure I gotta start preparing for a bigger enclosure for the T after the next molt. Appreciate all the info y'all have offered up here

70° humidity, inside another tank.. no bueno, that spider would do better at room temp with more cross ventilation. Keeping avicularia at high humidity was a fallacy that killed lots of spiders and has been proven not necessary.

Here's something to consider
