@Fuzzball79: HAHA! Right on! I've heard about these little speed demons. I have a particular bathroom I use with all escape hatches covered. Except....the vent fan on the ceiling. o_O For a Tapi...I may need to cover that. A little saran wrap & frog tape...no problem. :D

How do Tapis rate, speed-wise, against H. lividum & L. violaceopes? Those two are faaaaaast. I had a lot of "fun" chasing those two around my bathtub/room. I have never seen anything faster than my H. lividum, a recent acquisition. The other day, I was looking at it & I must've blinked, because I didn't see it move, but it was 6" away from where it was! I now get it when people say some T's "teleport."

K. brunnipes, Elf, was hungry last night, it grabbed a cricket before it hit the ground

Another hungry little one was Inca, a C. bertae. Only rehoused a few days ago, it has already webbed quite a bit.

P.metallica, Trip, is more visible since it was rehoused. Anyone any thoughts on sex please?

Trip looks female to me -- seems to be a very prominent epigastric furrow. I see no hint of epiandrous fusillae either. ;-)

I hope you're right. I always thought of it as male but hoped it was female

C. schioedtei...another one I've been looking at....gorgeous!

Just got a new A. avic yesterday, a 2.75 - 3" specimen. Mine just turned into a MM (darn it!), so I thought it time to start on a new one, since mine will be on his way out soon(ish). Stinks...I can't find anyone, as yet, who needs a MM A. avic. They're too common. :(

The C. schioedtei is a great T but getting pictures of it is almost impossible, it's so quick to dive back down its tunnel. The tunnel began in the back corner and it's dug along the back but it's also webbed upwards to the top, coating it in substrate, so I can only see it looking down on the top and the slightest disturbance and Tigger's gone.

Paypal messed up and now I'm having to wait 'til next week for my new A.laeta and the T. violaceus :(

NO!!!!! I hate that. :( Too long a wait...can make one insane. (lol)

Ah! You're getting the Tapi I want! Love it! Can't wait to see your pics of it! Always wanted a purple tree spider. Love, love, love. I'll be looking for a "behavior report" in Enn's Bunch on this one, for my edification. Ugh....so many T's on the wish list......so many to learn about...

Yes, the infamous "dirt curtain." My P. irminia and my L. violaceopes are masters of this technique, building tunnels out of silk and substrate. They're also masters at the dash-into-the-burrow thing, too, so I feel your pain...getting pics is decidely difficult. Fortunately, they both have moved so much substrate out of their burrows, they've made windows on the bottom of their enclosures for me and my flashlight to peek through... ;) An occasional peek is all I need.

The Tapi is only a 1st instar so it will be miniscule but I'll try to get some decent pics. The Avic is 2nd/3rd instar so hopefully not too tiny.

My P. irminia isn't so bad, she's made hers down the corner but I can still see her , the same with the P. reduncus.

Tappies will run laps around both of those.

My Tappie tries to lull you into a false sense of security by acting all chilled and docile. Even its first rehouse went without drama with the spider just staying on the bark. Last time I saw it at one end of its web tunnel, looked away for half a second and saw this ginger flash running around in the big box I use for rehousing. Luckily I was prepared and had a lid ready to catch it. No drama.
Now its in his bigger tub and its acting all nice and calm again, lol.

"ginger flash"....hahaha...cracked me up! I think I'll name my first Tapi, "Flash."

Honestly, it makes me nervous when the "fast" ones act calm and docile...cuz you know they're NOT. You can almost see them working out the escape route...o_O

It wouldn't have felt a thing, Culli was so quick. Feeding time is the only time I see it move quickly, it has to be my most placid T. The web is so close to the lid now that Culli is touching the lid and yet I can lift the lid and it doesn't move. Just hope that one day it doesn't surprise me.

Nah...I don't really feel sorry for the cricket. I saw footage once of a cricket being eaten from the back, yet continuing to feed ITSELF, as though oblivious to its situation. They're certainly not sentient, and it could be persuasively argued (from the footage I saw, anyway) that they don't feel pain. Culli can take her(?) time..lol;) Just don't accidentally exhale on Culli when the lid's off...& hopefully, she'll never jump on your face.:D

Speaking of face eating....:)...time for me to go risk life and limb (kidding...kinda). Gotta open the P. cancerides enclosure. Evil T, that one. I'm sure I'll be getting a threat posture, at the very least. haha
