I remember a study that was done where garden spiders were given different illicit drugs. I will see if I can find it.

Here's a rare sight. A Megaphobema, moulting outside of its burrow.

Big enough to sex yet?
Yes plenty big enough, I'm kind of nervous about finding out though, my plan was to just buy them, keep them, love them and feed them and whatever ones turn out to mature as male I will find a breeder for. Maybe I should toughen up. It might be better to find out now..

I can see why you wouldn't want to know...sucks that males have such a short lifespan in comparison to females :( I want to know just for the sake of names and it will probably be a lot harder for me to find someone who wants my MMs, so will give me some time to find someone who wants to breed.

If I had to bet I would think that Rapunzel is a boy and hercules is a girl. I'm not bothered about getting names wrong tho. I might want to have a go at breeding the red knees and the rosies eventually so will have to find out eventually but they are tiny so we are just enjoying there baby / child hood for now.

I really wish we lived closer so we could breed our Avics and our Rosies (there are literally no CB rosies around here...which makes me sad)!

You would be in bits if you saw the Avics in the shop near me, its sickening. My 3 seemed so grateful just for a water bowl and a log to hide in, maybe someone will buy me the other twenty still in the shop for my 40 birthday in a few months :)

They have three Avics (approx 2") in the shop I was at yesterday...$25 a piece. In tiny deli cups with nothing to climb on or hide in either :(

I don't know how these people sleep at night I couldn't rest knowing I left a load of animals with no water. There is a big genic that has been there for months as well but I can't pay eighty pound for what might be an old tarantula. Its very sad.

That would be awesome, there isn't enough B. Smithis in the hobby, I'm really considering buying one, when i place my order in the next month or so...

The only plus side to the pet shop near me, is that they do know a little bit about the tarantulas they keep... housing them and feeding them, anyways..

I think in the case of the shop where I went to it's a case of the employees being too scared and space, they have a TON of reptiles, and the reptiles are actually pretty well taken care of, though I don't like that they just dump a bunch of crickets in there and leave them...it can really stress out the reptiles. No excuse at all, personally they should just not carry them at all if they can't give them proper space/enclosures.

I agree, if you cant properly care for or house the pets you sale, DONT sale them.. period.
