@ Jake I've worked in zoos and we used them before and all burnt out at least 20-30 of them so I think I know better considering that's in my field /line of work I know better and speak from experience here. For example do they sell "cars"that are not life threatening? Am sure allot can go wrong with a car and cause the death of a life.

I have more experience in zoos and parks and we used heater fans before and they no good trust me or take the chance. Dnt believe me call Craig Allenby director of Nzg ( Pretoria zoo) a good friend and old colleague and he will confirm. I don't just suck this " bull****" from my thumb it is the truth. Be open minded and realize u probably used one fan heater or 2 . I've seen plenty fail!!!

As for the foil covered heat mats they work well and don't short out as they only come at 15 and 24 watts so also well insulated and on all the years I've never had one that has malfunctioned or stopped working. The ones to stay away from is the "fancy plastic" ones as they have been known to short out or over heat and burn down entire rooms and collections. Pls be specific on hear mats and give correct information.

So what makes you the best? your time at the zoos? please give me Craig Allenby number so I can phone him please I am one for the facts and need to find out every aspect of what you are saying! ;D.

I'm not doubting that the fan heaters died, I had one stop heating but that was after a while of using it, but for them to go a start a fire is a bit out of the way, if you cover them then yes I can see a fire starting and yes they can stop working.
I don't get the car metaphor?

Please inform me where I said this??? I would like to know where your mind read this bit from???

So in one breathe you say fan heaters are dangerous but the heating pads are not as they are only 14 watts!!!
They are restricting the current, hence the moment it shorts it increasing and so does the heat.

That is the reason why you attached a thermostat, fires has started due to heating matts and heating cables that I know for a fact.

But this is for SA, not sure if it will happen so easy in the states as they only have 110v where have 220v power unless this has changed?

Hi all
I have all my tarantula's enclosures in a neat cupboard with a glass door. I use a heating cable instead of a mat or such. I attached my cable to the back of the cupboard from top to bottom so that heat is distributed evenly though out the cupboard and so my tarantula's are nice and warm without me stressing over a heat spot or my kids being cooked. It works for me.

It will work yes because ur heating one side of the tank the back to be exact not so? By closing the door all ur doing is increasing the ambient temp in cupboard, but not by much. Perfect heating system :)
