Our Rosie wants to chew my face off...I can't imagine trying to pet our Obt (even if she's never thrown a threat posture) lol.

I found an h. vonwirthi labeled as an h. minax and when I told the pet store worker that it was mislabeled she looked at me like I was really dumb and told me "My husband is a breeder and knows everything about tarantulas and thats where I get all my information for my T's"

The T had 1-2 inch substrate (its a freaking burrower mr breeder) and they could atleast throw in a hide...but no. The poor tarantula didnt have a single place to hide. It must have been extremely stressed..I'm glad i bought her. Also, when she went in the enclosure to get the T out she freaking brutally scooped it up with a plastic container, she could have freaking injuried it or worse...and she failed at scooping her up several times before she got her in the container. I should have said something but I didn't want to argue..i regret it.

She also said tarantulas can jump pretty high and that the poison had been taken out of them so i shouldn't worry about getting bit if i handled it. (thats a dangerous thing to tell someone if they are getting their first T!)

Looking back...i regret i didnt slap the sh*t out of that b*tch.

No real advice to me personally, but the PetSmart in my area has all of their G. rosea labeled as tropical. They keep them in small critter keepers with about an inch of Eco Earth and a small water bowl with sponge. The Eco Earth is constantly saturated and the little buggers are constantly up in the corners.
The local Petco is much better. They have the Avics as well and all seem to be kept remotely well--G. roseas dry with a lain water dish and hide and the Avics moist with tall plants and branches.

I hate mainstream pet shops. There's a local shop here with knowledgable staff and one of the employees was a big G. pulchripes breeder.

the guy that sold me my b smithi kept all his animals on sand, sold only sand(wanted ecoearth, ended up switching later) and was like "yea I recommend calci-sand, that's all I've used, and I've been breeding them for years"

The man who i bought Ramases from actually looked up his bum and said. "this ones a boy." I couldnt be bothered to explain that they dont have male organs in there butt. He also said he was a year old which he was nowhere near probably more like 3 . He also said males live as long as females by which point i was getting annoyed of him thinking i was that stupid and believed everything he said.
