IMO the spider is suffocating and trying to escape from a pool of Co2.

The spider alone doesnt generate enougn Co2 to suffocate, but every time you loom over and exhale into that tank you're flooding it with Co2
You need cross ventilation, not top ventilation. Co2 is denser than air so it sinks.
I thought of this as well, I asked the previous owner where I bought the new terrarium from if the top screen is enough ventilation and he said yes, it’s just so little airflow so that may have caused her to wander alot

Hi
the mesh lid is only an issue if the height is more than the spider DLS they can't get stuck if they can reach the top and the substrate at all times if they stretch. Coco fiber and moss is ok for substrate as long as is packed down really well. Some tarantulas don’t like fluffy substrate while some don’t care.
Also tarantulas have decent grip even on glass so won't having good grip with tape sounds unrealistic and not worth the risk in case they get tangled in the tape.
How large is your spider btw?
Regards Konstantin
I am going to transfer her to her old enclosure today with more substrate, hope she will heal well after this facade

Hi
For that size look for enclosure with dimensions arround 30cm x 30cm x 20cm high and fill substrate 10-12 cm i it and you will be safe no matter where she is climbing.

Air flow wasnt my point. Suffocation from being choked by a pool of carbon dioxide in her enclosure is the culprit.
She will constantly pace around and try to escape regardless of substrate level etc.

For now you should just put her in a sterilite tub and let her calm down so you can get her a better enclosure that has cross-ventilation, IMO.

Dear fellow tarantula keepers. As some of you may or may not know, i’ve posted a couple of treads lately concerning my b.boehmei’s extensive climbing behaviour.
Her old terrarium had a mesh cover so i bought her a new one a month ago. She continued to climb and fall all over again. When i came home last night i noticed that her rear leg was bended and not shaped naturally. I read that this is not something to worry about too much because it will fix itself on the next molt but…. She keeps on climbing and falling and i am affraid she is only going to injure herself more… what can i do?
Raise the substrate level make sure she isn't walking on wet soil and put a thin layer of sand on top of substrate. This will mimic the terrains they are experiencing in nature.
This sp. Will climb if on wet soil seldom burrows for long as a sling and will act semi-arborial at times. Hot glue cork bark in a slight angle vertically to aid the climb up and back down.
My .02¢

You mentioned her leg is bleeding? I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will be able to help more but from what I've gathered, spiders blood won't clot. I gather some people use either vaseline or cornflour on the wound to stop their injured spiders bleeding out.

These are lithophiles with habitat preference similar to aphonopelma steindachneri and like cobbly clay based soils on scrubby hillsides

Every aphono ive ever had strongly preferred natural soil over coco. Loam is best.

So this thread has gotten me thinking. I have a beautiful 5" or so G. rosea I got about a month ago from Casey K. I put the T in a Zoo Med low profile glass tank with an acrylic top I made with about 40 small air holes around the lid.
The size in inches is : 10.25 x 20.75 x 8.25 (H). So no cross ventilation. Recently I have been seeing moisture on the walls as it is humid where I live (45 percent at times in the room)

I have an acrylic enclosure 11.75 x 15.75 x 10 (H) with vent holes on the lid and vent holes on three sides near the top, starting about 8 inches from the bottom when empty.

Probably could have benefitted from lower holes.

So I am wondering whether this would provide better air flow. She seems to be doing OK. Any thoughts?

Hmm, I think I may have a compromise. I am thinking about rehousing my G. rosea into the acrylic tank and putting my G. pulchra about 4 inches into the zoo med tank. It is quite a bit larger for her, but I remember Daves Little Beasties suggesting that the Brazilian Black Ts do better in higher temps and humidity. Also I am interested to see how the T will take to being placed into a pre- owned home. I may never know, as Ts usually have an adjustment period to totally new homes.

Mine is the same way. so, I dumped waaay more substrate in there. Now she has like 2 inches to the top of the container and she pouts and goes into her hidey hole.

That's the dumbest thing Ive read in a while. A spider would have no idea it was there to avoid. Scaring people for fun now? WTF

Your spider is fine. All my breeding females have been in those enclosures for years.

Tarantulas crawl around and climb, that's what they do. Some do it more then others. When I get a over active climbing tarantula I keep that spider in the lowest enclosure I can find to keep it safe. You simply have a active spider.

You sure make lots of accusations.. I took you off ignore thinking you were okay again and tried to break bread, but this just proves you'll never change so I'm just ignoring you again. I have no interest in your petty squabbles nor do i care for your opinion of me. You should be celebrating right now, it's the 4th of july.

Too bad you're too fueled by hate.. :(

No hate...just don't like bad information spread to people for no reason at all. Just looking out for new keepers in the hobby. Go ahead and block me if you feel the need.
