I just bought my first T. He is a 3/4" Antilles pink-toed (Avicularia versicolor). He came as a brilliantly colored cobalt blue. He has spun webbing and has eaten 2 crickets in 3 weeks time so he appears to be happy. Recently his back has become discolored and he has been hanging upside down from underneath a leaf for 2 days and has not moved. I have gone out of my way not to disturb him. Does this mean he is molting? Also, is it okay to put such a small T into a 10 gallon terrarium or is it way to soon?

Thanks,
Scott

Could you take and post a picture? Definitely don't put him in a 10 now, and probably not ever. He's arboreal and will be much happier in a tall enclosure.

Okay. He did move overnight into his web. So I can't get a good pic of him right now. When I do I will post it. I was going to set the 10 on it's side so it is tall and not long. I wish T's would grow up fast like cats and dogs. Can't wait to see him in full adult colors.

He just sensed me and dashed out of his web. I guess I was looking at his belly because that is what is discolored. His back is still cobalt blue. So I am assuming he is not molting.

You are looking at him with his head is facing down and his top side is exposed.

These only get to be about 5 inches as adults, so a 10 gal would be a waste of space in my opinion, even for an adult. Slings should be kept in a tall deli cup or food container with holes drilled in the sides for cross-ventilation. Not only is it likely to escape from a large enclosure, but it'll make ir pretty hard for the thing to find its prey, and they tend not to like large open space.

SO my brachy albopilosum just finished moulting yesterday. When would be a good time to feed her? I was thinking this upcoming Friday (when I usually feed her) but does she need more time? (Also, she's so much bigger now. It's kind of disorienting! What happened to my tiny baby spider? Lol)

I would wait a week to be safe.

I just happened to glance in my H. maculata, Kofi's container to see an exo, the little one has moulted again.

Congrats!! I'm still waiting on my 3. The GBB hasn't eaten for 2 weeks, and ran from the cricket we tried to feed it yesterday. He's also getting really dark so i'm thinking he's in premolt. Previously he's molted almost like clockwork every month, it's been going on 4 months now since his last molt.

Redrum has been hiding in his burrow for almost a week now, and last night wouldn't eat the pinhead roach that ran down there to say "HI!!" He's always jumped them before and ate really well so i'm hoping that's a sign :)

Koby has walled up his burrow, and hollowed out an area in the corner of the his enclosure that he's been sitting in for the last week or so now. I'm hoping as fat as he is that he's getting close too.

Would be awesome to have them all molt at once :D

Orphnaecus sp "Blue Panay", Taal has moulted again, that's 5 times in 8 months and is definitely going to need a larger home very soon.

My A. Sp. "Amazonica" finally molted 2 days ago. It's not came out yet, but I can see some longer legs and brighter bottom sticking out occasionally. Still a tiny thing though.

Just found out my Brachypelma albopilosum molted! Her fangs are black already, so I'm assuming it happened over the weekend while I was away. Here's a before and after.

My first molt! She's a good 2" now, and so gorgeous!
