Honestly though. I hold my b. smithi. I know it does do them any good. but it does me good. :) i love looking at her and watching her move. I just do it while im sitting on the couch or the floor.

It's just that it has more potential to do harm than it does any good. There are so many hazards and no benefits at all to the spider, and frankly the spider is the one that matters most here. The safety and well- being of the tarantula should be a priority over the owners entertainment.

This thread reminds me of a photo I saw yesterday on FB: A B. Smithi tagging its owner minutes after being handled by his partners friend. Imagine the spider had decided to tag the friend instead. Bye bye spider :( (unless she was a a very calm and brave T owner herself).
Each to their own, but nah, not worth it for me personally. I can't say how I'd react and my fear is that I'd automatically react by yanking my hand back or shaking it.

I learnt to keep still when being bitten by snakes because if you try to pull away from them you only make the damage worse. My view is if you want a pet to cuddle, get a cat, snake, guinea pig or such.

lol I Always try to hold still when I get bitten by one of my snakes because I'm afraid of hurting their teeth. Even so I'd say several of my snakes are somewhat 'cuddly'. They seem genuinely curious about me, and I think they benefit from the exploring behavior of being held.

All we are to a snake is a warm tree but I still like to think they enjoy a cuddle. I used to have a big blood python that loved to settle on my knee and watch TV, he'd sit there for hours given the chance.

My garters all get really excited when they see me. I know they're just begging for food, but it's still pretty cute.
