Hi all,

I have a juvenille Mex. Red Knee I purchased a few weeks okay. He/she is constantly in its hide and rarely moves and looking generally a bit shabby/feeling sorry for itself. I'm led to believe this is most likely pre molt behaviour, but my concern is she/he is inactive seemingly all the time and refuses to eat a variety of live foods offered.

The enclosure is a simple plastic tank which coco fiber and with little humidity as I know these species like a more arrid environment. I keep both my T's in a small box room turned into office with no natural light as such and just a 40 watt bulb so as to avoid a bright light, this area keeps a constant temp of around 22-25c , which I believe is ideal??

Can anyone please advise if/where I'm going wrong and just any other general tips that may help ??

BTW - my other T , (Female mature Chilean Rose), is just absolutely fine in her enclosure in the office, eats loads and seems very content!!

Thanks all :):T:

Hello I have two of these, and other Brachypelma specimens. They all tend to be shy while still being sling to juvie, this being said there are exceptions to any rule. Your temp seems fine, maybe a photo to show the actual setup. Also consider the fact the specimen is using it's hide, that means it is a suitable acceptable hide so it can't be wrong.

Hi Martin,
Thanks for the reply that is reassuring, I'm assuming the lack of appetite is just perhaps due to pre-molt conditions??
Please see attached photo - BTW the Tardis and torch are for my benefit and not the Ts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:T::)

That looks fine,I would just change the hide if possible so it has a large closed area since that one you can actually see the whole inside. With some T's I have seen, they love to have an area solely for themselves no light seeping in just my opinion.
