I would like a ground tarantula that doesnt burrow (I want to be able to see it), easy to hold and take care of, non-ichy, and is cheap. Cool looking for some bonus points. I know its a tall order, can anyone think of anything?

G. Rosea....typically doesn't burrow, tolerates handling (though most keepers do not advocate handling), has easy temp and humidity requirements, and inexpensive. However, all New World T's can kick hairs. My experience with Rosies is that they have to be provoked before they will even think about it, but individual temperaments vary.

Do you research before getting a T. Some females can live 20+ years.

I've heard some people say to stay away from the pink hairs because of their mood swings and temperament but I'm not sure how much of that is true. Im just getting into it but I wouldnt mind a 20+ year pet. I'm trying to learn everything I can about molting and whatever else I can find.

Hmm what would kenny say (produces huge list. )
I would go with a rose hair or a red knee. Both are pretty low maintenance and generally easy going but any t is capable of flicking hair or biting. Red knees are stunning and rosies are intelligent.

Well, as was already said, all new worlds can kick hairs. Even though some spiders are out in the open often, they do need to be offered a hide to feel safe and secure. Some that I would suggest looking at would be G rosea, G pulchripes, G pulchra, B smithi, B albiceps, B albopilosum, and E campestratus. Ummm let's see I'm sure I will think of more later. If you want an adult or sub adult G pulchra, and B albiceps can be a bit pricey. Our first t was G pulchripes. I think it is a fantastic starter t. They generally are very visible ts, docile (all are individuals though, so I can't promise all of any species will be docile), not very skittish, and eat like pigs.

Yeah the chaco golden knee keeps coming up a lot. Red knees too. Both sound good. I'd love a brazilian black but seems too expensive and rare to find

I have a G rosea that used to go into a threat pose when I walked into the room and would hold it for an hour. She wasn't bluffing either
My Delilah is approx 25 years old ive had her nearly eleven years and she has never done anything horrible. She has cured many arachnophobes and is the kindest loviest t ever. I wouldnt sell her for all the money in the world. But ive had some nutty ones nothing like your one tho!

I agree, B smithi is a nice beginner too. I have 3, and the young ones tend to be flickier than the adults. I think that's a lot of ts though. As they age/get bigger, their confidence grows :D

Actually mine doesn't do that anymore. Go figure. She was like that when I got her, then after about a year she seemed to chill out. I don't handle her though, as I'm not normally a handler, but she doesn't really seem to care what's going on anymore.

My smithis dont flick hair as they dont have much yet. I really dont think there is anything to rival them on looks. I gave a mature male to a breeder years ago and broke my heart he was my first b smithi. I will never be without one.

Red Knees, and most Ts for that matter are burrowersin the wild, and as slings. All small (terrrestrial)tarantulas will burrow. Once they get some size they get some confidence, and rarely hide. B.Smithi,B.Emilia, and G.Pulchripes are great starter Ts, as long as you understand that each individual T is different, and there is no guarantee that they will be handleable. I cast my vote for G.Pulchripes. Fits your criteria the best of any T.

Not at all. I never get tired of people doing research before getting a tarantula. Welcome to the addiction.
