@Ghost how long will the male be viable for ?

@sym it's hard to say how long he will be viable for,but since he only matured last month then I would guess that he's good for a few months yet as long as he's still making sperm webs then he's good to go once you get your female.

My C.fasciatum male matured at the end of April and my adult female is not due to moult untill about end of August so won't be able to pair them up untill about October some time but I still expect him to be viable,in the mean time he's going out on a couple breeding loans untill I need him for my female....

@Ghost . Just waiting on the female to arrive.. I'm unsure on the sperm webs as his enclosure is full of webbing. Can you tell what's a sperm web to a normal web?.. I've noticed some of his webs look to have thicker strands in it?
Very excited to try... I hope she doesn't kill him

The sperm web looks like a tent that's open at both ends they build them ofthe side of the enclosure or the side of their hide or cork bark, but your right with the heavy webbers it can be hard to tell unless your lucky enough to catch him on his back under it.

As for the female killing the male you can reduce the chance of that happing by feeding your female quite heavy twice a week for 3-4 weeks before you introduce him to her,I do this with my females before pairing them up also you don't need too mate them repeatedly once is usually enough, what I do is introduce the male into the females enclosure late at night and remove him after about half an hour that's plenty off time for them to mate the longer you leave the male in the enclosure the more chance you have of her eating him,I also stay on hand just in case he makes a run for it that way I can get him out if the females not receptive, that way he lives to try again latter......

@Sym,you should be fine these are a easy species to bred so I would think you would be successful,if you want any advice just ask its been a few years since I bred these but I can always dig out my breeding records to give you a rough idea of what to expect with these....

She's chunky the male is thin and pathetic lol.. I don't think she would have any problem pinning him down.
I filled the water bowl before I put her in the enclosure and sprayed the substrate near the bowl. She is currently sat in the damp end.
I've started a burrow for her and placed leaves over it.im hoping she will go nuts with her webbing skills when lights out..

@sym Yes, when I rehoused one of mine recently it didn't take long for it to get busy.

She has eaten tonight...
I've noticed in the picture I posted of my new mature female she has bold patches on her knees should I be worried?

Glad she's eaten. Could those bald patches have been caused in transit?
