So I'm Jared (username : ArTeMiS) & I've been keeping & collecting Tarantulas for about 4 years now, have acquired a rather large collection over these 4 years, I now have 17 T's!! Bt then I also have an Emperor Scorpion, a Leopard Gecko, 7 Adult Centipedes (all local sp. - Cormocephalus Nitidus & Ethmostigmus Trigonopodus) with some wicked color morphs, as well as abt 60 newly hatched E. Trigonopodus babies (Red Headed Yellow Tiger Morph) & abt 30 - 40 newly laid C. Nitidus eggs!! A lot hey?!? Most would think so, ne not so much!! I like my creepy-crawlies waaaaay too much!!! Unf space determines the size of my collection ultimately, so I'm no longer collecting new critters bt instead trading some off 4fewer items so as2 make space 4 some new & exciting species!! Anyway, as this IS a T forum, abt my T's... I have 2 x Haitian Browns, 2 x Chaco Golden Knee, 2 x Curly Hairs, a Bahai Scarlet, a Fire Red Bird Eater, a Salmon Pink Bird Eater, A Giant White Knee, a Panama Giant Blonde & my 3 besties r a Fire Leg, a GBB & a Pink Beauty!!! I've had a few more over the years, some were swapped, some were sold, some died, a couple escaped!?! U name it, it's probably already happened 2me!! Been bitten by a GBT (Golden Bitey Thingie aka Mombasa Golden Starburst Baboon), a Giant White Knee & then just yesterday I received a nice going away present 4rm my African Feather-Leg Baboon!! It seems she may b slightly peeved with me 4selling her!?! Bt she's Sooooo damn aggressive & Ultra Lighting Fast!!! WoW!!! Got such a fright when the fang sank in2 my pinkie finger I clear 4got 2sh*t myself!! Fortunately, no invenomation (dry bite)!! Seems I was quicker @ the draw on the day, or so2 spk!? African species of T (or Baboon Spiders as we commonly know them), not my cup of tea!!! Personally, I think Stromatopelma Calceatum should only b kept by very experienced collectors!! In general all Baboon Spiders r overly aggressive 4rm my experience!! Harpactira, Pterinochilus, Ceratogyrus, Stromatopelma, etc.. But still really stunning Spiders, I must say!! Excellent as an ornamental display pet, not 4 touching unless u enjoy those road trips 2the Emergency room, lolz!! I saw a comment/thread on this forum, some1 talking abt how they live in SA bt dnt yet own any local T's!! Dude, whoever u r, mayb re-think that!! I'm no fraidy-cat bt I think it may b more harmful 2the spider if IT bites U!?! Imagine how u would jerk ur hand away in the event of a bite, it might hold on & then splat, it hits the wall!! Owie!! Cnt blame the T 4biting!! Bt serial, spk 2ppl who already own a Baboon Spider, sure they will tell u much the same!! Bt @ the end of the day, ur choice is still ur choice, so feel free!?! #justathought
Anyway, I have questions.. Many of them, just feel I've now abused this thread enough, space-wise, lolz!! I'm very interested 2hear bk 4rm any of u peeps with ur stories/experiences, etc!! So dnt hesitate, post a comment!
