Evening all,
I'm interested in getting a T that's known for being a heavy webber, as I love the ascetic of a webbed enclosure.
I have a versicolor sling already, who's made a lovely start, so a terrestrial would be a nice contrast.

I know the notorious OBT can make some lovely webs, but is there anything less spicy for a newbie?

GBB might be up your alley but mine doesn’t mind throwing a threat posture when disturbed.

N. Incei is another popular one. I’ve never owned one myself but from what I understand they can really run lol. It’s a dwarf that has two color morphs which is pretty neat.

I think I'm edging towards a GBB, I don't mind a threat posture or two. I want some pokies in the future so want something slightly more challenging, but not too crazy :D

The Incei has some nice gold colouring, very pretty!

How sacry are OBTs in reality?
Are they just talked up in the hobby?
Mine are quite chill but I wouldn't try to grab one. When doing maintenance in the enclosure, I always make sure they know I am coming by gently touching them with a soft paint brush. 7/10 times they will retreat deeper in their webs, 1/10 they'll stand their grounds (threat posture), 2/10 they'll just move slowly and do not seem bothered by my presence. I would consider them quite fine for most people who do not feel the need to handle their Ts.

I'm not planning on being hands on (maybe the pulchra once in a while when she gets bigger, if shes in the mood) I know the T's get nothing from it & it can stress them out.
I'm certainly not putting my hands anywhere near an OW if I can avoid it!

@octanejunkie are you in the UK or US?
I'm 'murica!

I have several OBTs that are crankier than aggressive. I've been faux-charged at, and ground-slapped at, but never more.

That being said I've successful paired 2 of them with little trouble and have 1 sac to pull in about 4 days - I'll bet she does more than threaten. Who wants to place bets?

If you can be safe and responsible you can keep an OBT exactly as you would a GBB.

Aw nuts, I’m in the UK.
If I can’t decide, maybe I’ll just have to get both ;) I guess I’m just nervous of a bolt & escape, but I’ll never get my pokies if I don’t get something more advanced!

Honestly, accidents happen when keepers either get lazy or aren't being responsible/cautious.

Escapes can be prevented, as can bites. It's all in the precautions you take and what you expect (to happen/are prepared for) - it's hard to replace actual experience with knowledge, but if you know your limits, and theirs, you can navigate keeping advanced species, like old worlds.

In my experience OBTs and pokies are actually very very different when they’re put in a high stress situations. My rufilata relies entirely on her speed, which she has in spades. She don’t like-..nope sentence isn’t even finished. She’s already gone. Now, that’s not to say an OBT can’t cruise. They definitely can. Maybe not in spades but definitely diamonds. But they’re more likely to give a threat pose, which I actually would rather lol. At least they’re stationary. Now, are they scary? Not if you know what you’re doing. Is that idea hyped up in the hobby? Sure, but it’s not all hype either. They’re not, and I mean not kittens and not to be played with. These are serious animals that deserve the utmost respect, just like Poecilotheria, and every other spider for that matter. But, I digress. I’m just trying to give their different reactions to stressful stimuli.
