    So Blossom just molted . . .

but what is dis?! Are female chalcodes supposed to be this dark when they molt?

When should I remove the molt?

Okay good to know! I'll just let her use it to decorate her enclosure however she sees fit.

When should I remove the molt?

So my girl Bianca finally molted. It's been over 24 hours since I noticed her in the molting process and I think she's finished but I'm going to leave her alone for another 12 hours. After that should it be safe for me to try and remove the molt? She molted in her burrow and I want to make...

    Hamsters and tarantulas

At the end of this month I'm planning on getting a Syrian hamster and keeping it in the same room as my tarantulas. I'm concerned if the ammonia from the hamster's urine would be harmful to my spiders. Of course, I'm not planning on letting my hamster's cage get soiled so I intend to do...

    Mushroom????

Suddenly there's a mushroom in Bianca's enclosure! A mushroom! I always check it for mold, never saw any spores, didn't notice anything out of the ordinary when I left for work this morning, but I come back and there's a mushroom near her water dish?? What!? I removed it but should I rehouse...

Unsure when to feed my A. Chalcodes.

Yeah, mine doesn't really like to eat either. I still offer her food every week but I'm usually removing uneaten crickets after a few hours. I've never actually seen her eat but a few times I haven't been able to find the cricket I left in there with her and her abdomen isn't shrinking so I'm...

Can you HEAR your tarantula molting?

Turns out, that's exactly what she's doing! She's grounded!

Can you HEAR your tarantula molting?

I just found Bianca flipped on her back deep in her burrow. I'm not exactly thrilled that she chose such a small space to molt in but I figure she knows what's best. So I'm leaving her alone to get to it when I hear this noise. I can't really describe it. It's kinda like a popping/tearing...

    Tarantulas chilling in the pool.

Or at least the next best thing - their water dishes! Blossom's been relaxing in her water dish all day. She loves water. After I got her she practically sunk into her water dish to drink and I frequently see her by it but this is the first time I've seen her soaking for so long. I'm not...

    Who's molted today

One of my baby B. Smithis molted. This is actually the second time this one's molted since I got them (the other one molted once) but I didn't have a chance to snap a good pic until now.

    Monsoon season is coming soon.

Buy a captive breed one. I live in AZ and I could've easily taken a five minute trip to the mountains to find one, but I didn't want to disturb and catch a wild animal and force it into captivity. I got my AF Chalcodes from Net-Bug for $50 plus shipping. She's a beauty and worth every penny.

Well I got the wrong tarantula's lid plexiglassed, aparantly.

So I had to do an unexpected tarantula rescue this morning. I walked into my gaming/tarantula room to check on my girls as I normally do before getting my coffee. Blossom was chillin' on her skull as she normally is and I was expecting to see Bianca huddled up in her little burrow that she's...

Zoo Med Creatures line - thoughts?

I think I'll stick with just a coco fiber/peat moss mixture then. The only reason I considered it is because I noticed my A. Seemanni seemed to like more moisture. I was considering redoing her entire enclosure and having all of the substrate be a mixture, but I think I'll experiment with just...

Zoo Med Creatures line - thoughts?

Recently Zoo Med released a new line of products called Creatures that geared towards tarantulas, scorpions and other invertebrates. In this line they include starter habitat kits and a substrate called Creature Soil, which is a mixture of peat moss, soil, sand and carbon. At the moment I'm...

    My first slings!

The pet shop near my house got a bunch of baby B. Smithi's and I could not help myself. I picked up two 1/4 inch baby spiders, doubling my tarantula count to four. I'm still new to the hobby so I've obviously never kept slings before, but I did find an indepth sling care guide on Tom's Big...
