Where to buy tarantulas besides online

I'm new to these forums and am glad I found it. I didn't know there was a huge tarantula community online.

I have a tarantula that a friend gave me but am now looking for another (specifically a choco golden knee). I'd rather buy in person rather than online and don't know where to go. Do pet stores usually have them? I doubt they'd have a good selection.

If anyone has any ideas it would be great if you could share. Thanks!

If you're in Canada, Kijiji is also another online 'garage sale' type site similar to Craig's list that often has T's for sale. As for pet shops, most of them aren't really that responsible with their T's, but sometimes you find a gem...so maybe try calling around and then going in person to see how they treat/care for their animals :)

Thanks for the replies! I checked Craigslist but they only had one T near me(about 3 hours away). I'm in the States so Kijiji wouldn't help me much but thanks for the tip. I ended up calling all the pet shops around and only Petco said they had one. I ended up getting a Rose Hair :D

Petco also said they can special order some T's so I'll probably get a Golden Knee sometime. They said it takes a week for it to get there.
Now the fun part...setting up my T's terrarium.

If you guys live close you should go in on a tarantula order. each covering half shipping. I do that with a few collectors here. Saves a lot of $ over time.

I'll probably be there!

I'm not going to be ordering more for a while. Where I'm at now I'm not really supposed to have pets (this seems different though lol). But I'm going to wait till I move before I get more. (Though I might get a chaco golden knee spiderling if I find one).

Hey, I'm a little nervous about my Rose. When I touch her she doesn't move forward...unless I really push her then she'll inch a bit. She just sits there kind of in a ball not wanting to move. I've never seen a T do that. Yesterday she was active at the pet store and when I brought her home. Is something wrong with her?
I'm probably being paranoid but I just want her to be alright.

Im not from america but its probs the same as here in the uk, buying tarantulas online is nothing to worry about, in fact you have more chance of getting what you want from an online store than somewere like craigslist. Ive heard alot about ken the bug guy and lots of people speak highly of him. Anyways, Im sure some of the members on here from the usa can point you in the right direction to buying online.

My whole collection has been ordered online except the 2 WC jumping spiders. I've gotten a few from Ken the Bug Guy and he is great!

My preferred online vendors (in no particular order) -
http://www.kenthebugguy.com
http://www.petcenter.info
http://www.fearnottarantulas.com
http://www.net-bug.net
http://www.jamiestarantulas.com

I think these are the top 5 vendors in the US. I've never had any issue ordering from these, even the accidental order on one of my B. albo's from Jamie came through just fine :)

You can also check the "for sale" section of this forum, there are members there with great reputations. @Casey K. @Doc Miller, @Chubbs, and @Thistles are first to my mind :) check the "reviews" thread for others.

If you're dead set on not ordering online check petsmart, petco, maybe a local pet store (lps) or see if there are any repticons or such near you.
