The plot has thickened for Brazilian spiders in the U.S.

It doesn’t matter if they are WC from Brazil or CB from Europe. Brazil is claiming they never allowed legal exports of their spiders, which means even captive bred off spring are illegal in the eyes of the Lacey Act and Fish and Wildlife. They have already started confiscating CB imports from Europe at the boarder.

It’s great news that we can breed and own the ones that are already in the U.S., but we are still going to eventually lose a ton of species in the hobby. The U.S. hobby has proven year after year that we still rely on European imports with even very common species.

So my pulchra is illegal? SWEET. When she's a mature female I'm going to get as many mm from hobbyists that I can, and then flood my country with them. I hope Brazil doesn't invade us with sticks and rocks..lmao. You know that country was once a growing, thriving place? It's beauty is unmatched. Then: Socialism happened. The corruption of socialism destroys any country it touches. Go to any uncensored site and type brazil into the search engine. You will be rewarded with images and videos straight from hell. Google it. A good lesson for the trashy, stupid, degenerate leftists that are destroying America.

I hope this person is writing satire. Otherwise, political rants have no place on our forum. We are here because we care about tarantulas, not to use the site as a political platform.

So... We basically are not allowed to buy Brazilian species? R.I.P. my brothers dreams.

It's not 100% set in stone yet but as it stands right now you can. Only imports from Brazil will stop. from our points of view (hobbyists not importers) you can still get any species you see for sale. But now we need to make sure the species are sustained with the hobby as wild caught Brazilian species will be illegal to obtain

Idk wth Brazil is talking about. All my T's are/were CB and if they were from Brazil originally, they wandered into the US by themselves. I captured them here in the US. Damn, that's a long ass walk for T....... :D
They must have come in with a caravan of illegal rapists from South America. #buildthatwall

I'm not running for office. And no, it wasn't satire. I pretty much say what I want when I want. I'm pro American like that. If my comments offended you, you can always eat a bag of ****s to distract yourself from the pain.

The most current update says that what is here is here and its fine to keep/breed/sell them. Further exports directly from Brazil will no longer be allowed.

We are waiting for USFWS to issue an official statement on where they stand on this.

Ok, well that's a serious blow to the hobby, if hobbyists don't react RIGHT NOW. If it's from brazil, buy it, breed it, and make it prosper. Some of the finest terrestrials in the hobby come from South America, and **** like this tends to trend. Do what's right.

How often is the US hobby "topped up" as such by wild caught specimens? I'd imagine 95% are all captive bred but don't have any idea how reliant the hobby is over there on wc

If the reaction to the Brazilian issue is anything like the Poec issue then I’m not very optimistic.

My report is only anecdotal but I can’t be the only one seeing this. I’ve had a MM P smithi that had been ready to breed for about 4 months now and can’t find a single mate anywhere. There is no shortage of people ready to help me find a mate, there just aren’t any mates it seems.... I was even told by a reputable dealer with a MF

“I really don't think there would be a market for this species if we were to breed them, and we'd be stuck with 200 tarantulas that we can't sell. As much as it pains me to say this, since I love all pokies, I don't think we're going to try to breed this species.”

We all know “the other forum” preaches a work your way up to breeding approach. At this point it’s all hands on deck. Anyone who wants to attempt to breed should seek the proper advice and give it a go (in my opinion).
