It happened. Month after month of pandemic. No end in sight. Finished Netflix and the internet. Before I knew it, there was nothing left to do but...spend time with my family--I know right. So wading through the monotony of Disney films, Mothergoose song alongs, and fake enthusiasm, it happened. My six year old daughter poked her head up one day and said "Daddy, do you think this is cute?" Oh my, what now. I walk over and there it is, a giant blown up picture of a tarantula face. Why yes, yes I do. So she runs to show mom with all the enthusiasm that accompanies youth. Mom was unconvinced. So like any loyal husband, I immediately began to scheme and undermine her false perceptions. Yes! Spiders are fricking cute and big spiders only mean more cute! Yes! Spending hard earned currency on roaches is cool and perfectly normal! And that's how your humble author ended up in his current situation. Forums forumed, vendors vetted, spider and roaches shipped/delivered. Now exercising impulse control to prevent getting more is the big concern.
These things are cool. My daughters loves the little sling. I love the little thing. I hardly expected to find something that could bring me and my girls together on such a buddy level. Moving forward, I like the friendly nature of this forum. It's the perfect match for tarantula keeping. Dont think I can be a guy that helps out much as I know so little, but happy to be here anyways.
It's crazy. I used to catch these things as a kid with an old coffee can, and some water, then release. They're part of the local ecosystem in Southern California, but ours is breeder raised. I haven't seen a wild tarantula in over 20 years. We ended up going with a GBB. Anyhow, I only meant for a brief introduction. Hope you enjoyed, and look forward to the future!
