My boyfriend brought one home last week. I don't know how I feel about the weird creepy little guy. Does anyone have experience with this spider? Like he is really, really, very creepy.

I don't have any experience with them but they look pretty cool. Do you think you could post some photos for us? Pretty please?

All I know about them is, deep deep deep substrate, and you'll likely never see them again once they start their burrow lol

You are very lucky! Most of us that desire trapdoor spiders have a very difficult time locating them. As mentioned above, trapdoors spend virtually their entire lives in their burrows. You may never see them once they burrow (unlike burrowing T's and scorps). They should have a very deep enclosure filled with soil (wide variety of opinions on the substrate but you will need some humidity as this is an African species I believe). They don't eat as often as T's as mine usually eat once every week or two. They will refuse the food if not hungry. My understanding is that their bite is actually worse than a T with regard to venom. Trapdoors fall into the Primitive Spider category. Check out the video on the trapdoor enclosure and care:

Do you got other photos of this fella? Thanks
No, I don't even want to transfer him from the cup he's in into anything more appropriate never mind do a photo sesh! He really just creeps me the hell out. If I was with my boyfriend when he decided he wanted this thing we'd have left the store without it. Do you have kids? Have you ever seen Monster's Inc? He reminds me of the character Mr. Waternoose.

Denny, thanks for the video. I'm going to watch some more on YouTube, maybe once I get a little more familiar with them I'll be able to see them in a new light. Maybe I'll even grow fond of the little fella.
I wasn't prepared to have him, so now I have to find an appropriate enclosure for him. Yay shopping!!

I got interested because I found him really creepy too.
Yeah I know waternoose, the crawling boss.
Your spider somewhat looks like the sea tarantula I saw over the net before.
Enjoy your new spider.

Thanks, I watched a couple videos and can see the allure. Kind of. I think I'd still rather kiss my OBT than have to rehouse this guy but whatever. We have it, what's done is done. (I'm the one that does all rehoming and tank maintenance- my boyfriend only takes care of the feeding because I'm afraid of crickets.)

It was just a myth I saw over the net like 3 years ago.. It's more like a crustacean.. I was reminded seeing your spider.. I'm gonna check if I can still find it..
