This is not an opinion it's a fact; If you over feed your T to the point where its abdomen is much larger than the rest of its body, you are making it much more fragile, and more likely to die in molt. When a T hits Pre-molt you should stop feeding all together.

In addition to what Kenny said, an overweight T is also at a higher risk of rupturing if it suffers a fall.

the theory is that you feed it; it grows faster an it dies faster. Which may be true for males, but I don't buy into that for females.
At least not an significant amount of time.

If you power-feed them as babies, they mature sooner. For males, this can mean a shorter lifespan.

Well, I'm so confused about this subject...Three days ago, I purchased a huge 4 year old Red knee female...She came with tank all set up for breeding crickets under the 2" substrate...It has an air pipe, and a water bowl, and a cave...And, supposedly, this tank has been this way since she was a little tyke T...My hubby picked her up, so I'm not up on all the details as to what substrate and stuff are in there...I'm interested myself...I emailed the guy, but he hasn't got back to me as yet...Does anyone know of this system where the crickets just keep breeding, and the T keeps on eating?...Apparently, they know when to eat and not eat when it comes to their molting...I Just don't know...If we are only supposed to leave the crickets in for 24 hours, why did she survive all this time?...No one took food away before or after she molted?...And what about over-feeding?...She still looks big and healthy except for the thumbnail size bald spot on her abdomen...Her body seems huge to me, t hough, but she's my oldest and largest T...

You do not want to do that. Crickets are filthy and can bite. You will not be able to keep the enclosure clean and the Tarantula happy at the same time. When feeding, you should feed one prey item at a time once a week.

that sounds like somebody who had no idea what they were doing tried to make a "perfect tank", best to just scrap that and fill the tank with some substrate

Well, that's what I wanted to do as soon as I saw it...My husband said, "She's been living that way for a long time and is healthy, so why mess with it"...I plan to take her out, but, if I do and she dies, then I will feel so guilty...

well, just because she lives doesn't mean she's happy.

My Red knee has been rehoused...I did not disturb the cricket set up, and hope it continues to produce crickets...I have no idea as to what system the guy used, and he hasn't answered my email...He was ill, so I hope he's OK...
