They really don't take too much of your time, it's hard not to think "One or two more isn't really adding much". I mean, when I'm feeding the slings, I already have the feeders out and ready, another sling is barely adding any work, just popping another feeder in another tub...

Chilean flames look awesome definitely jealous of that one. Sounds like you have a lot of cool species.

Bah... maybe I will have to go ahead and get an A. genic... I'll tell my partner you're all to blame!! Maybe he won't notice one more sling tub... or two or three...

No fossorials here yet... not sure where to start with them!! I read that most "proper" fossorials are OWs but that there are NWs that do burrow a lot. I have no idea what species are good to go for though for a beginner!

I want to try and be patient and get m
plenty of experience with safe rehousings and growing spiders up before getting "too many". I don't want to be "that" beginner... at least so far everything has been going very smoothly, just by being calm and patient with them
What I keep coming back to is that temperament is a specimen to specimen thing. That’s my excuse. I had my eye on a fossorial (Skeleton leg?) and it sold.

I have one arboreal and she’s cute but I prefer terrestrials right now just because I can see them and I think it’s a confidence thing. I haven’t worked her out yet.

When I got back in the hobby I jumped in both feet and got all OW! P. Muticus, OBT, and M. Balfori! Before, and I mean years ago, it was NW spiders! You just got to be ready for that speed and boltiness! Some species are not that bad! The Harpactira Pulchripes are not bad! Mine is a sweetheart for a OW! Some of my Chilobrachys really ain't that bad but all T's have their own personalities like people! Have to learn them. M. Balfori, again not bad and beautiful! You get an OW sling and grow with them you learn what to expect! All Cyriopagopous I have kept are attack, attack, and it's not leaving then bolt at speed! Seen it many times! My Psalmopeous Eccelsiasticus is probably the meanest of the bunch! All out attack and just don't back down .lol.

Oh for sure. All animals are individuals - not just with spiders! I'm happy to respect them and let them be themselves, no matter how they turn out.

My A. juruensis is out a fair bit, though I'm not sure if things will stay that way! They were also surprisingly easy to move from the vial they were posted in, but I guess we'll see how things go when I have to rehouse it later haha.

That's really interesting to hear!
I know there's definitely feisty NWs and have heard of "calmer" OWs but usually everyone is warning newbies away from OWs.

H. pulchripes is pretty gorgeous.

Still I think I might like to get a bit more experience rehousing

I can't say I blame anyone who has not kept a Tarantula for wanting to start with calmer spiders ..lol! When I got back in the spiders I seem to like the most were OW! So I went with it and I still think I need my head examined sometimes because if there is one that's challenging I seem to want it. Why I got the Heteropoda sp. David Bowie! And boy was I not disappointed! Teleporter and tiny. Arrrrggggg! The things I do to myself...lol. But I love it!!! And will continue.

Yeah from all I've heard about Heteropoda species, that's one I'm not sure I'll manage LOL...

There's definitely a lot of OWs that are gorgeous and very appealing. I suppose if you've already got experience and know what you're doing it's not too much of a leap!

Lol the Heterapoda speed is simply incredible and jump as well!! How tiny it was with that speed I believe we got lucky a bit with re- house into a Tarantula Cribs sling enclosure! Had two molts, it's a lot easier to see now at least! Hopefully, raise this wee little thing to adulthood! Love their look!! Had to have one! Lol

For my first T I completely ignored all the warnings about the OW Ts and bought a juvi OBT simply because I loved that glorious colour of the Usambara variety and I have kept a youngster as one of my reduced collection of 3 Ts. My second T was a P. metallica.
What I'm saying is if you want an OW go for it as long as you do your research and treat them with respect all will be well.
