Hello Joe, welcome here (as a matter of fact, I'm a new member too!). It's absolutely normal (if your temps and humidity are okay), as your T will need time to adapt to the substrate. Just check that it isn't too moist, Grammostola porteri like it dry with a waterdish. Otherwise, just give it time to feel home.

Did you offer it a hide? And if it's climbing, give it enough substrate height to be sure it doesn't hurt itself in a fall.

Welcome to the crazy hobby of T keepers! Our motto is: "one more, one more, one more..." ;-)

Hi Nicolas , thanks for the advice i just felt substrate and it does feel a little moist. Is there a way i could dry it or would you recommend changing the substrate?

I did offer a hide but it hasnt used it so far.

Already thinking one more ;-)

Hi there and welcome :)
I rescued a porteri from a local petshop,
Her substrate got very damp , My fault totally, her substrate was slightly above the bowl and wicked the water into the sub and I didn't notice it till it was done,
Anyway, I gave her a plastic lid to sit on so as not to rehome her again so soon. (Coffee can lid,) just a dry spot for her. seemed to work for her while things dried out, I keep holes below the sub level for extra ventilation now, and make very sure none of the fiber from substrate is touching her dish enough to cause a problem.

And its natural to be thinking one more when you get here, You caught the fever!
they need to post a warning about T fever...it seems quite contagious!

I always feed mine veggies and then protein dusted them; however I have recently moved my T's onto dubais and they seem to really like them. I am sure some of the others will have some ideas for ya

I give mine a variety of organic veggies as my middle boys a vegetarian so we have them around. I also blenderize a bit of good quality pet food and mix a bit of tropical fish flakes into it. They love it, use water crystals for their water needs. I try to take good care of them too... (but I still hate crickets!)

That will just grow mold. Don't spray the cartons. Fresh fruit is okay to supply water, but the crystals work really well too. You can get them at pet stores, but it's cheaper to get them from Home Depot. Miraclegro makes some designed to add to soil for plants and they are exactly the same thing as the cricket gel but much cheaper.
