That's a nice little speech Chubbs, but look back at my comments. Many people have disagreed with me, the only person I insulted was you, because I don't like you, or your passive aggressive crap, and you remind me of every fool that ever made snarky comments on arachnolords... You know, the forum you just can't stand to have criticized. If you can't spend as much time on a forum as you do and not be a silky boy when someone makes a comment or asks a question, maybe you should go back to AB..And uh, in response to the quoted post above me.. you posted that exact comment to the female poster of this thread...so if you wouldn't say that, why did you type it? Scroll up, Einstein..By the way Chubbs, back when you started the first one, when you accused me of being irresponsible for suggesting a beginner get a deadly Psalmopoeus, you seemed quite against it. But I noticed in a later post, to a beginner, you suggested the exact same thing. So what exactly were you doing, other than trying to look wise and then backpedaling, because someone called you on it? Is this about a real point of contention, or are your panties wadded up again? And when I get irritated at your smarmy little comments, and show some color, you get defensive, just like right now "This is seriously getting out of hand" ....FFS...You'll sit there and insinuate I'm an asskisser for being nice, then when I say something back,"OH LORDY IT'S GETTING OUT OF HAND" Grow a spine, boy.
Will you just get off my back? I know you don't like me, you established that already but I honestly don't know what to say to that. I really don't care. It's unfortunate but there's nothing I can do about that. guess I'll just leave.

As a female, I find it sexist that someone would tone things down for my "benefit." Treat me the same way you'd treat a man, please.

I really don't like the soft bigotry of low expectations.

You're both right - it is a waste of a male, but it's also understandable that a newbie would be either uncomfortable shipping or hesitant to send off a prized pet to an uncertain fate. For something like an LP this isn't such a big deal. If we were talking about an uncommon species, I would say that the owner almost has an obligation to the hobby to try to find the spider a mate. Obviously that would be unenforceable and is a matter of opinion, but the hobby (and spider, and owner!) benefits from breeding as many tarantulas as possible.

I see both sides to this. I also wouldn't be comfortable shipping out a tarantula, I honestly just wouldn't want the hassle. I have shipped reptiles before but never invertebrates and honestly the thought scares me. Maybe some day in the future I can do that but not now.

I also don't think Chubbs was rude about it, just matter of fact. But I guess I can also see your interpretation of the post MassExodus. Either way, I think it would be a shame for you, Chubbs, to leave the board just because one person doesn't appear to like you. You guys don't have to get along to continue to provide good information. I would just treat this like real life and ignore each other's posts since you both seem to rile each other up.

Just throwing my $0.02 in...

I can completely understand the hesitancy of shipping off a male, especially if it's a new situation to face. Like the OP, I also have a male LP, who would love nothing more than having some lady lovin'. Since he's my first mature male (and I admit to having an attachment to him), I'm also torn on what I want to do. Deep down, yes. He should fulfill his dreams, and pair up with a sexy female T, yet I'm a worrier, and saying I'm a mother hen is an understatement. I did seek out a mature female, both on this forum, and by talking with many breeders at a local con. None of the breeders offered to take him (and I honestly didn't press it too hard), and I couldn't find a female. The next con I go to in December, I will look more actively for handing him over, though. The choice is a hard one for those who are new to this. So, one may find it a waste to keep the male chaste, but another may understand the weight the decision carries.

The second point I want to bring up after reading this thread is there's a reason I keep coming back here. This forum is almost void of degrading language, insulting replies, and snobbery. While I consider myself pretty knowledgeable on tarantula husbandry, I still have A LOT to learn, and I welcome any advice given...so long as I'm not made to feel like an idiot. So, it disheartens me to find such squabbling. People who are new to the hobby don't need to be scared away (like another infamous forum tends to do), because much of their information will come from discussing things with other hobbyists. Lord knows most of those "care sheets" are a load of crap, and the vast majority of pet stores don't know their @ss from their armpit, lol.

Anyway, this is all my humble opinion.
