Hey,

I bought some medium locusts yesterday and placed them in their pen with fresh water and food. For some reason 24hrs later, They are all clinging to the top of the enclosure. only one has taken shelter in the tubes.

Is this behaviour average for locusts?

You need a different enclosure.

THese grasshoppers are a desert species and do not like poor ventilation, and they need intense bright light and heat to be happy. they quickly succumb to respiratory ailments as the spiracles can be blocked by condensation, causing fungal infections and rapid death.

The best enclosure for all Short-horned grasshoppers is a large screen cage with light exceeding 5000k (daylight spectrum, 6500 is best), a simple CFL will suffice) and a reptile basking lamp for heat.
