People are always asking me why tarantulas? I tell them they are fascinating, so different from us. Or someone will be going on about how nasty/scary a spider is. I try to peek their curiosity with a one-liner, something like this....

Did you know tarantulas don't have eye lids?

Tarantulas are very fragile creatures, a short fall can kill them.

Tarantula don't hear, they feel vibtations.

Tarantulas move using blood pressure, much like a hydraulic system.

Things like that.

actually some tarantulas can make noise. by rubbing bristles on its legs together they create a hissing sound called stridulation.
