How big before you can sex a T?

My 1.5" B. smithi just molted for the first time, and I was wondering how big they have to be before you can accurately sex them?
Also, is it normal for their abdomens to look really small just after a molt? It's already been a little over a week since it ate, and I'm guessing it'll be another week before I should try feeding again.

This is the first time any of my spiders has molted, so it was exciting! It was kind of pinkish tan all over prior to the molt, and now you can see the black and red coloration.

I have sexed smaller than that, depending on the microscope and time spent on the procedure.

I could probably use one of my university's microscopes to see next time. The abdomen was pretty mangled with this one though.

usually depending on the sex of the tarantula. In general, when males are about 3 and a half years of age i mate them. As for females, around 6 years of age. For more advice and tips, check out www.tarantulapets.com

From what I could see of mine w/o a microscope, my guess is female, but that may just be wishful thinking. I'll just have to wait till next molt to know for sure.

I think sometimes I could have a T as big as a dinner plate and could still not tell. Sexing is not my strong point.
