Hi. I’m Ken, a new T owner. I got Hector, a Mex Red Knee a week ago and he is awesome. I do have a question. After rehousing him to a larger enclosure, he has not once gone into his hide like he did in his previous house. Should I be concerned about this? Any feedback/advice would be greatly appreciate.

Hello and welcome, Ken!

It is not unusual for spiders to take a little time (days to weeks) to settle in after being rehoused. Be patient and give it space and privacy - they are generally solitary and reclusive creatures.

On another note, I would highly encourage using scientific names, like Brachypelma hamorii instead of Mex Red Knee, since that could also be Brachypelma smithi

Wow. Such a quick and thoughtful response. And it definitely helped ease my concerns. However, on your advice, although I am very new with tarantulas, I consider myself a regular joe and prefer the non-scientific names. And if I’m not mistaken, didn’t the scientific name for the Mex Red Knee recently change so it does now have just one scientific name? Anyway, just my opinion that putting out those long scientific names throws people off (maybe even T pros) - ok probably just me. Take care and thanks again!

Hi Ken, welcome to the hobby. :)
I agree scientific names can be difficult but you will get used to it. All my Ts have pet names like your Hector that I use at home but on here I do make myself use their scientific names to avoid any confusion.
