I've read that they just need a few inches of something like eco earth or soil with a water dish in a 10 gallon tank or equivalent as adults

So guys, I experienced the skittishness that was mentioned when dealing with the Costa Rican zebra. Dude shot up my arm and down my back, haha. Another option I have is a super calm young avicularia avicularia/pink toe. What do you think? I like the look of the zebra, but the personality and arboreal nature of the pink toe.

I prefer terrestrials myself, but ask her, see which she's more comfy with so you get to have one ;) and go with that for now. Once you have one in the door others can sneak in fairly easy.

So there you go, get the zebra, then get a honduran curly hair (Brachypelma Albopilosum) and let her experience that one :) I'd go with smaller ones, slings or small juvies so she can watch them grow into their colors.

I'd be hesitant of handling one from Petco, they don't usually house them correctly and like to starve them, or they toss in a dozen crickets and aggravate the hell out of the T. Makes for a skittish paranoid T from the ones i've seen. Some here have done rescues from petco and petsmart, but i won't, mostly because i buy slings ;) and i don't trust the people in those stores and don't care to raise an abused animal. I can't do it with dogs or other animals either.

Our local one seems pretty good as far as care, but you're right, I highly doubt they know enough about them to recognize threat postures and handle them properly

Tarantulas are addicting. I thought I'd be good with one. but now I have 2. I'd probably be the guy who would rescue the Tarantula since it makes me proud to Nurse things back to health. I find it quite pleasing when it works out.

That's how I was with my garter snake who hadn't eaten in 4 months and was a baby because the store didn't know baby garters like fish and worms

I guess the one time I held the zebra and took a picture was a rare moment. He seems to be very skittish. The pink toe today, however, didn't even give me a chance to see how it was feeling. Just ran right up and sat on my hand, calm as ever. I think I'm getting it Friday.
