I am going to Repticon in Dallas and would like to start to concentrate my collection. I am thinking Avicularia or Brachypelma. Any pros or cons to either on that someone who specialized in either could give would be great.

If I had to chose between the two I'd go brachypelma. I have one avic and I'm just not that into the arboreals. Have you considered anything else, like maybe a Hapalopus sp? They are colorful, hardy, ferocious eaters, and don't take up much room.

It depends on what you want. Avic climb and you can have a realy cool set up, not to say that you cant with brachypelma tho. I have never had a brachypelma I want one tho. It also deppendson the speicies of them you want. If you want to hold it

I love both!! I love my two avics. I have and avic avic (adult female) and an avic verisi (about 1inch) but I also have a B. Smithi and absolutely love him!! I just ordered another B. Smithi and a B. Albopilosum. They are bother great docile species. I do handle my adult avic avic and my b smithi. They are both docile and super great!!

I love brachypelma... I've been successful raising up brachys in the past and currently raising 8 slings.. but I'm looking forward to end the year getting my 1st avic.

Nice choice.. my collection are of T's of 10 different genera but brachypelma is the majority..

I'm jealous of the repticon and other expos.. I've seen one only in 3 years over here. This is due to legality concerns.. but the black market here is abundant.. If you have a T in mind then dial a number and you'll get it after 1 to 3 hours.. that's like it over here...

Well, I successfully made it to Repticon in Dallas this morning through the traffic and rain but had a good time.

No Hapalopus sp was to be found. Actually not that many T's at all. One local seller "Stamps Tarantulas" had a nice assortment but mostly slings and juveniles. A couple of other vendors had just a few T's.

I got these three:

Guatemalan Red Rump, 2"

Mexican Red Knee, 1.5"

Entre Rios, 1"

I also got some custom made aquariums that are a little smaller than a 2 1/2 gallon and shorter. I will post pic probably tomorrow.

Great pick ups. Very surprised there weren't any Hapalopus sp.

Steven Stamps is a great guy, haven't purchased from him yet but he has some excellent videos on packing and shipping T's and I've never heard anything but great reviews. Waiting for him to post some black Friday sales might have to sweet talk the gf into letting me place an order of he's got anything I really want cheap.
