Hey guys, I'm pretty new to this hobby as I got my first T last weekend (Chilean Rose). I named it Chaka, I suspect its a male but I'm waiting for a molt to make sure. I think he's getting close as the pinkish metallic tint on his head is darkened. I'm already looking into raising a sling, and I'm very exited to get involved in the community! I'll attach a pic of the little guy below.

Welcome to the hobby dude, I agree with you on thinking your rose is a male, I always find males are a lot more leggy and less bulky looking than the females. A chilean rose was my first T as well, my uncle moved to thailand and pretty much dumped it at my place the week he left, now it has lead me to an obsession haha, although I have always loved spiders/tarantulas. I personally don't think chilean rose are amazing starters to be honest, or at least mine wasn't they have the most unpredictable behavioral patterns I've seen (fasting and psycho rosies). They are an amazing way of learning tarantulas though (seen as a must have to many collectors).

Yeah I've heard stuff about the behavioral patterns. I haven't really had mine long enough to see a mood swing, but after he got settled in he's pretty chilled out. I've handled him a few times with no issue, no threat poses or anything of the sort. Plus he was captive bred unlike most Grammostola roseas out there which I'm pretty sure helps against defensiveness. Are there any T's you would recommend raising from a sling?

Welcome to the forum Hayden.
Nice looking G. rosea you've got there.
Yours is large enough to vent sex now. It appears to be in the pre molt stage, keep a full water dish in the enclosure.
I advise waiting on getting a sling until you have the basic husbandry skills at a level you're comfortable with. Raise a juvie to maturity first, some NW terrestrial from Brachypelma, Aphonopelma or another Grammostola species . Sling care isn't the same as juvie or sub adult, their requirement are more delicate. Not saying this to be mean, just seen too many posts about "Please help with my sling", then its too late and death occurs. [emoji17] Just my opinion and advice, the final choice is yours.
Good luck.
Happy T'ing.

Thanks for the info! I am currently looking into either a Mexican Redknee or a Chaco Golden Knee, so I think you hit the nail on the head.

GBBs definitely I've got 3 I raised from slings, they can be crazy fast though surprisingly. The many colour stages are what does it for me with GBBs.
I'll definitely look into those. What is the scientific name?

Mexican red knee = Brachypelma Smithi
GBB = Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens
Don't recall what a Chaco is, I should, see it in posts frequently. Big reason to learn the scientific name, since common names are too confusing.[emoji6]
Agree with the C. cyaneopubescens (GBB = Green Bottle Blue) are beautiful species, and should be in everyone's collection.
