I took the plunge and bought another Avic after my first died during a moult and also bought a T. violaceus that I have been wanting for quite a while. Imagine my surprise to find an extra T. violaceus in the parcel. I rehoused the A. laeta first to discover it had moulted in transit. Then to the 2 T. violaceus - was that fun, both made a break for freedom and by gosh they are fast. It was a good job I had them in a box inside an ExoTerra viv.

A. laeta named Frio after a Puerto Rican island

2 x T. violaceus, both named after Guyanan rivers

Lol, don't eat them all at once :). The container that mine is in had a profiterole desert in and that was yummy. Like you I'd always kept away from Avics but after losing my first I was determined to try again.

@Fleas Thanks.

I've just checked on the newbies and realised that the Avic has lost a couple of legs. It must have struggled to moult in the packing poor little soul.

Congrats on your new babies. I thought your Avic photos looked a few legs short. My versis and minatrix grew pretty quickly as slings, so it probably won't be long before the legs are back. I'm sure you will enjoy watching your Avic grow up!

The trouble was that they were all so quick that I just wanted to get them safely in their new homes and when I took the photos of them the Avic was against the leaves so I didn't notice until I went back through the pics, then I double checked and there are definitely 2 legs missing but it doesn't seem to bother it, it's happily exploring the lid now.

The 2 T. violaceus were in pipettes with damp paper towel in the bottom and more at the top leaving a gap between for the T to move around. The Avic was in a vial and wrapped completely in paper towel not leaving much room to move so I guess it had a bit of a struggle.

Congrats on your new slings, Enn, and a two-fer to boot! You are lucky :)

You can always rehome the cheese puffs, Fleas... just sayin'

Nice little spiders, Enn. I don't know about T. Violaceus, but the Avic will grow fast and before you know it, it'll be out of that fragile sling stage.

@Fleas: You might want to suggest taking the sponge out of the pet store's enclosures and give them a proper water dish (spiders can't drown in clear water). It's a breeding ground for bacteria. Just saying ;)

@Fuzzball79 Apparently the gigas is the fastest of the genus so the violaceus can't be any worse and it doesn't have urticating hairs. They mature around 12-14 months so I guess they grow quickly.

@octanejunkie if I do that most likely not going eat them. @Fuzzball79 I don't know if I can start telling someone how poorly of a job there doing I guess am not that confident. @Enn49 am glad that your avic is unfazed by the bad molt:D

@spidey noob Thanks. Yes, I decided to try again but I'm not having much luck, first one dies during a moult and now this one loses a couple of legs moulting in transit.

Hi Enn,

I was thinking about your Avic today, happy that it is settling in. Has it eaten yet? My versis and minatrix are absolutely greedy!!

No, it hasn't eaten yet. Unfortunately my livefood order has gone missing in the post so I had no pinheads. I gave it a tiny cricket last night butt it's still there this morning.
