Yea that’s perfect. Make sure to give them some kind of food when they are put in the substrate. I throw a dead cricket in every so often and they usually all flock to it.

Well no, I thought you were adding them in weeks before you put the tarantula in? In that case you would need to feed the springtails somehow.

@Ratmosphere you mentioned before that the tarantula wouldn't come delivered full adult 11-12" in size.

Need to know an approximate size in inches in order to buy the right sized hide.

The option on Backwater shows "med-large" but doesn't clarify if it's an med-large adult or med-large juvenile.. I wouldn't assume this would be a sling.

Roundabout, what would be the size in inches of a medium-large juvenile and a medium-large adult Stirmi ?

The two sizes of the hide are medium and large.

Medium has an entry of 7.5"

Large has an entry of 9.5"

This is what they say about the wood material :

I’d contact the seller to ask the size of the spider.
I've already emailed them and asked them if it was a blondi or a stirmi that they were sending as Theraphosa and I haven't received a response yet.

I'll try sending them another email today.

I went ahead and bought a smaller 7.5 hide for $10. I'll just exchange it and pay the difference if the spiders too big for this one.

I also purchased those clay culture springtails this morning.

I'm almost 100% sure it'll be a stirmi bro.

Let us know what they tell you on the size!
Just sent out the email asking about the size, so I'll let y'all know whenever they email me back.

I want to say the size would be half of what it would grow to, assuming. So 5 to 6 in" I'm guessing.

In the meantime what's the average prey for that size ? Crickets or roaches ? Or something else ?

I was going to order a hundred large live crickets from PetSmart.

Doing so, should I go ahead and grab cricket food too ?

You do not want to use calcium cricket food for feeding T's. I personally give my feeders carrots, and sometimes potato and apples. I also get hydration gel for all of my feeders.

Depending on the size of the tarantula, roaches might be better. I feed all of my Theraphosa dubia roaches. You could use large crickets but you'll need a lot of them. If you are unlucky and get a mature male from them, it won't eat much so keep that in mind.

Yeah I just watched a video on how to feed and hydrate the crickets. In the video he used wheat bread to feed them and oranges dehydrate them.

Maybe the large crickets will be good for starter feeding just to see how things go and if I need to move up to the Dubia roaches, I'll do so later on.

I'll get the oranges and bread for feeding and hydration.
