My H pulchripes has hooked out. When I shot the video, I could only see that the color had changed radically. He had totally concealed himself for quite some time and I was worried, beginning to fear the worst.

Upon inspecting the video and still photos, it became obvious that he has tibial hooks on his front legs. I presume that the reduction in color aids in concealing his whereabouts as he roams the world looking for females. Hopefully I can get him eating. I definitely want him to harden up before even thinking about shipping.

He has had no injuries, never escaped (although not for lack of trying) and in all respects has hit every benchmark you could ask for. The enclosure he's in would be perfect for a M balfouri sling communal, about maybe 3 unsexed 1" to 1.25" slings. The other thing is to simply trade for 2 unsexed H pulchripes slings and most likely I'll get at least 1 female, another words wash, rinse, repeat.

We need more of these guys in the hobby!! They're a great second terrestrial and an excellent but pricey first old world spider. They are skittish but mine hasn't one ounce of aggressive tendencies. He's never thrown a threat pose at me or stridulated, not even sure if this species can do so.

One weird thing is that he's become less light sensitive after hiding for weeks and acts almost semi arboreal.

It's sad that his life is drawing to a close but I'm optimistic that someone will want to breed him. I think he'll be mostly hardened up in a few days making shipping safe but frankly I'm not even sure if mature males have a decent appetite. I'd like to get some food into him before shipping if possible.

Update: he's back in his hide again. Interesting.

Nowhere near what many other members on here are used to but unbearably hot for us. The highest we've had in the north was 82.4F (28C) but in the house my living room has been between 81-83F daily with a fan going. Remember we don't have aircon in our homes.
I'm based in west London and I've hit a high of 88.2f (32.2c) in my room. This is with 2 large windows open and a desk fan on 24/7. I've had to keep my blinds shut or it'll just get way too hot

Reason I came here thou is as I went to feed I noticed my b hamorii molted ;). Starting to get some colours

My Brachypelma auratum molted as I was posting this....View attachment 31409

Hopefully more slings will become available. The 4 that I got from Arachnoclown are doing great on B lat pinheads. Flour beetles proved to be unnecessary. They are very calm and don't try to escape. They always feed reliably twice a week unless in premolt and have molted several times.

Whitelightning777 says it is a Theraphosa stirmi.

The simplest way to reply to someone's post is at the bottom right of their post it says Reply, click on that and it will quote the other persons post.
