What do you think about T. stirmi

I've been playing around with the idea of adding a female T. stirmi to my collection. I was wondering what people think about them beyond just mentioning husbandry. I certainly like the idea of large tarantulas, which is why I have an LP.

Tell me about your experiences with them. What do you like/don't like? Any good stories? Pictures?

The one I have is shy and hiding a lot. She eats great and “collects” crickets as soon as they come close to her retreat. They grow good. I have a life plant in her terrarium. :)

We've just got an AF stirmi, I was asked to take her on as she has legs missing although this doesn't seem to bother her much - she's feeding well and so far seems pretty calm (no hair flicking at all) although this is likely to change lol
We've also got a SAM stirmi who has been raised from a sling.. He was so cute when he was little and an excellent feeders as he has grown he tends to stay in his hide more but makes an appearance for feeding time :)
I think most people want them for the sheer size of them and little else - I love all our spiders but I must say in terms of looks there are many more attractive species than a stirmi but each to there own I'm sure people will disagree with me but I'd rather be honest,
In terms of having one in your collection they are a must have as they are great in terms of making a nice bioactive enclosure as stirmis are the perfect occupant for this :)
Heres a couple of pictures..

This is my girl. She is one of the few I have named. She is called Felicity, as she likes to Flick. She spends lots of time in her hide & is prone to stridulation when disturbed. But beyond that is not defensive & is in general very easy going.
She makes a great T to show to people. As often when I gently lift the bark from over her, she will produce a rather loud hiss.
Her molts need handling with care, as they are far worse than her flicking, when it comes to irritation.

I’ve never owned this species but i’ve seen them at many reptiles shows over the years, slings to adults and the adults are IMPRESSIVE. The only real story I have about the species is one specimen (a female if I recall correctly) was in one of those large clear containers (flat, round) and she was flicking hairs because of all the noise and commotion. The seller ended up putting her under the table so he didn’t kick herself bald. I nearly bought her out of pity but I didn’t because reasons. Beautiful spider though.
