Hi all,
Just got home from work to find my Chilli Rose on her back with her legs all curled in. I have had her just over 3 years and she has not molted for the last 2 years. She was maybe 18 months old when we got her and like i said has only molted once.

I have attached photos.....

Thanks all for your advice.

Craig.

I would leave her be for a day or so. She might be molting and you could hurt her if you disturb her. Some of mine have been curled up on their back like that during a molt too.

Well this morning, she is still the same, but she has really curled up even more, don't think it's looking good, as for the Bark bedding, it dose have a picture of a T on the front of the bag, i do mix it with eco soil to retain the moisture.

Thanks all for your help and advice.

Regards

Craig.

Afternoon Craig,

Firstly i'm really sorry if the worst has happened, I'm pretty new to the hobby myself so couldn't offer the best advice like many of the others on the forum could,
but i would suggest leaving her for another day or two, fingers crossed it could be a bad molt, fingers crossed for you. and please keep us all posted!

Doesn't look like a moult.
In the future, dump the wooden chips and just use peat or something similar. Keep it dry and offer her a waterbowl.

Thanks for the advice. I was actually advised to use the chippings and have done for the last 3 years for all my spiders, but I won't anymore after yours and the other guys' advice. I have used water dishes for all my spiders too, and noticed that Rosie had been drinking more in the last few days. I thought I might have seen her move one of her legs slightly a while ago, so am going to wait until at least tomorrow to see if it is a bad molt.

Hopefully she will be ok. Thanks again everyone for the advice.

Well I just spoke to sue as I'm at work and after a chat we decided she had passed away.. so she tried to carefully scoop her up with a spoon and all here legs moved. Poor rosie I just don't know what to do.

Thanks all for your kind advice.

So it's certainly a bad molt then. Personally i would just leave her be and let nature do it's thing. Maybe she will surprise you, you never know.
It must be horrible to be in such a situation though. I'll be keeping everything crossed for you though.

Right guy's I've just got home and her back leg is slightly moving :), so she is alive, how can i raise the humidity. Maybe that might help.

The tops of her legs are now a bit puffed out as if she is starting to actually molt now. I really hope she will pull through, she's a very special spider to me.
