Is the temperament of an Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens similar to that of an Avicularia versicolor? I hear green bottle blue tarantulas are skittish. My Avicularia versicolor is skittish but is usually calm. I was wondering if their temperaments are similar because I want to add one to my collection.

My Avicularia versicolor is actually quite calm and generally sits still whenever I open her enclosure. Both of my C. cyaneopubescens are quite skittish and have no problem kicking hairs all over the place. Still, their feeding responses are amazing, and they are darn fun to watch hunt. Both species are gorgeous, in my opinion, and favorites of mine.

My GBB (juvie) doesn't try to make a break, but it's the only one that occasionally flicks hair at me (not that it affects me at that size, 1.5" DLS).
My Versi assumes that everything in her surrounding is potentially food and tends to jump at it first, then reconsiders. She has calmed down a bit recently and it's now safer to fill her water dish or wipe poop off the front glass (why oh why is it always the front glass she uses as a toilet?).

I have shared this pic of my GBB having a bad day before but seems like a good enough time to share again. Normally she us fine. But obviously had a few issues to deal with.....lol

My GBB would rather run away but all it takes is the slightest movement to make her take off. I dont think there temperament is too bad though. Get one!

This may fall as one of those individual T quirkiness and would be quite unfair to generalize. I have had my GBB for more than a month and it always webbed its enclosure be it small or pretty large as in my current setup for it. I did not have a problem rehousing it. It is not skittish and has good feeding response. It has yet to kick hairs. Regularly molts, and currently, it's once a month, It pretty much just does its business and does not mind if someone is googling over it. ;)

she's camera shy Phil lol
I have 4 GBBs and they ALL try to make a break for it when the lid comes off the container. Almost every time. I've rarely had an Avic do that.
One more reason to love the avics ^.~

the GBB are rather pretty, but I love my A.avics, everything about them, from the way they wave their legs around.(It always makes me think they are almost floating), to how nosy but at the same time calm they are, No, they're not flashy, not overly impressive... doesn't make a bit of difference to me.
I'd gladly have half a dozen of them.
When I got that last sling from the pet shop, (Labeled a rose hair) Had no idea which avic it was, having not had one that small
The good folks here told me it's an A avic. (from my avatar picture) I was and am perfectly ok with that.
Hell, how was I supposed to know they had tiger striped bottoms when they are babies :p

In my experience, versicolors are a bit pissy sometimes but not bad normally, just a tad skittish. Both of my GBBs are a bit skittish but never defensive at all. On very bad days they both might kick hairs briefly and retreat to their hides. Usually though they're laid back. Both great species, but Kymura is spot on with A avics. Most of mine are very bold, curious and unafraid. They're great, and while not as colorful as some, they're quite striking.

I've only had an A. versicolor for a few weeks now. But she's much more calm an relaxed than the GBB we've had almost a year now. The GBB has recently become skittish even for my son, who used to be able to handle her without any problems. Anytime the KK is opened if the enclosure is nudged even the slightest bit she darts into her web tunnel. Dropping roaches in on her web brings an attack, usually at the tongs rather than the roach lol. But then she'll realize her mistake and it's really fun to watch her attack the roaches.

The A. versicolor only moves when i mist the enclosure, then she'll go get a drink. Picking it up removing the roaches she's ignored the last few weeks doesn't seem to bother her at all. She just sits in her web and watches. By far the most calm spider I have

My GBB is pretty chill. She set up her web house behind a mug I provided for a hide, and is either chilling inside, or on top of the mug on the lookout. She was super skittish when I initially rehoused her, but has since calmed down. She won't even flinch when I open the enclosure.

Now, it's interesting to hear of people's accounts about the A. avic, and I'm thinking I need to get another one just to experience their typical behavior. Mine is my pet rock. She sits on the glass, and will maybe shift to the right, or perhaps the left. Sometimes she gets really adventurous and will go to the other side of the enclosure. I can stick my hand in there, pet her little butt, and she just sits there. Occasionally, she'll flex her legs in lazy protest, but that's it.

I love how chill they are, my bigger girl (A.avic) thinks I'm a heat rock and will dart onto my hand when i'm 'window washing' she's the only one who goes out of her way to do it, then she just sits there like she's smug lol

Wow. Mine completely ignores me, as if I'm not worth exerting any precious energy. Snotty little girl. :D My G. porteri behaves like your avic, and will trot on up to my hand, and make home. She is the coolest lady in the neighborhood.

YES. My Tabitha (G. porteri) is so near and dear to my heart. Sure, they're not the most attractive, or the most spunky, but I'll be damned if they aren't the most lovable. She is my beloved.
absolutely agree with you! she has my heart over all of my T's and don't get me wrong I enjoy all of them, but my porteri is my baby :D
