Hello everyone

So I have a small communal of 5, they use the same tunneling system and I've seen them hunt together. Would like to hear your inputs/experience on these. Also when they do get large enough, the best possible setups for them meaning water etc ?

Just watch out. These tend to turn on each other when they hit juvie stage, so you might end up with 1 fat spider.

Okay, thought they were good communal Tarantulas. Looked at a few posts after your reply, seems the most someone has kept were 80 largest 4 inches but no further info. This might be a 50/50 communal like you've said, size dependant. Could you maybe stick your feelers out and see what you find ? I don't want to cause unnecessary harm to them, thanks upfront.

Like I said, from what I have seen, they are not as communal as other genera. I can't remember any that I have seen where people still have them together as adults.
If you want a communal (actually not an accurate word as they are more tolerant than communal), get a balfouri or pokie communal (just not ornata). These tend to do great all the way to adulthood.

Hello
Saw on bts, arachnoboards and another. Which was weird northing after 4 inches, which caught my eye. Robc had the 80 communal ones, but also up to a certain point info then nothing. So I can draw a conclusion, which I didn't want to since I can't find more.

Seems to me closer to adulthood a 180 degree in the group, and something goes very wrong. Your comment sparked me to reconsider this, truly don't want to lose any. I really thought due to their behaviour, hunting and sharing the tunnels and compartments they would be okay. Seems not to be the case. Thanks, but sad all at once.

Will consider trying the m.balfouri communal, well at a later stage. Heard a lot about them recently, so will see how it goes.

They work like a dream. I have 2 subadult females with an adult male together (Been like that since 1st instar) and my female is currently sitting on a small sac, so going to leave those together. Also have a communal of a subfusca female with 5 x 6cm babies, a formosa adult female with 10 x 4cm babies and a striata adult female with 10 x 13-15cm babies with her.

It's hard to see in there without tearing everything apart, so will wait for slings to show. If no slings appear then I will consider the sac being a dud. :(
