Anyone else have a smithi that climbs? Zoltan has recently taken to staying on the sides of his tank and only resting in the corners where his plants are. He has a hide, and although his substrate was recently changed, it is completely dried out and not moist in the slightest. Any ideas as to why he is doing it?

One of our B. smithi spends a lot of time up the side of its container too although the other doesn't except if the sun catches the side of its box.

I heard that there is a point where they stay out in the open a lot of the time, but I wasn't expecting him to be a climber. I have as much substrate in as I can before it falls out of the ventilation, so he can't hurt himself.
Did your T always climb? or was it once it just got comfortable, so to speak.

The one that doesn't climb has always been happy just to sit in the open, even as a tiny sling. The other used to burrow away a lot as a tiny one but it has gradually started to spend more and more time in the open and usually up the side. We have just got a third, even smaller than the others were and it has burrowed too.

My Boehmei is a bit of a climber at the moment, but I think this is down to her getting used to the fresh substrate in her new tank.
My 2 Grammy's climb when it's raining heavily outside.

My smithis both climb when the substrate is fresh and still damp. As soon as it dries out and they have laid some web down they stop climbing.

Some of mine climb when the weather changes. My genic is not a climber, but i've seen him on the side of his enclosure the last few days as the weather was supposed to be stormy, all we got was wind though. Still that's a change in the barometric pressure so i'm guessing they're sensing that and reacting by getting to higher ground.

My smithi and others don't have the room to climb like the genic, but they've all been sitting on top of their hides.
