Well, some are very similar in a general sense. Big south American terrestrials like Theraphosa, Pamphos, Lasiodora, all grow fast like that. Species like Aphonopelma, Brachys, most Grammastola, all grow slow.
And of course that's directly related to life span. A rosea will live two to three times longer than an Lp..

I grew a GBB from 3I to MM in three years, and a female produced a sac her fourth year.
G pulchra, started with 1" slings (4 of them) had 2MM in 3(?) Years, and 2 mature females the following year.
I need to confirm these dates when I get home.

thats awesome, this hobby is more exciting than mantids already, lol. mantids are short almost seasonal invert. i can see now why people have so many different species. my LP is about 2 inches now, i got it as a freebie, never would have bought one, but now i got it, it is the one i like the most. always digging and active. the rest just hang out all day.

The LP eating... habits, i guess you could say, are one of my favorite to watch at feeding time. Wednesday night my little 1/2" LP bent a lateralis roach in half in order to drag it down into his burrow to munch on. It was a larger roach too, maybe 3/4" long. It made a daring escape from the feeding cup and ran past the burrow opening before we could get it out of the enclosure. I didn't think the lil LP would go for prey that size :D

Nice!!, thats how nice is, soo powerful too. do you keep his substrate dry? mine has been tunneling all night last night but it seems to have fell in being dry eco earth.

Nope he's tiny, only a 1/2" from front to back leg tips or so. I keep his substrate moist. When i built his enclosure i used a mix of eco earth coco fiber, sifted top soil, and a bit of vermiculite. I made this substrate mix moist enough it would hold shape when squeezed but not release any moisture. Saw that idea in @Tomoran blog. He (the LP not Tomoran) has a bottle cap water dish that i overlow a time or 3 each week depending how fast it dries out and that's it. He didn't use the hide i put in so i just made a starter burrow with the back end of a small paintbrush in the corner and he's been digging that out slowly ever since.

I actually just started using the potting soil, jungle mix, vermiculite mixture, it works very well, I like it, especially the potting soil. Holds moisture better than straight jungle mix. I'll still use just jungle mix for my dry species though, as the other stuff isn't necessary.
