Wondering if my container of choice it to small/ large for my sling. The T is slightly more than an inch. It created two seprate burrows. I have a little bottle cap for a water dish. Thanks for the input guys and gals!
Cheers... And happy Holidays,

My 2 were around 1 inch when I got them and I kept them in cricket tubs to begin with but they grow so fast that 3 moults later they are both around 4 inches and in 3 litre Braplast tubs.

Thanks! I have been told they are super fast growers. Do you think I should rehouse now or wait for a molt? I have read that keeping T's in to small containers when they are young can stunt there growth. Don't know if that is true or not or just pertains to particular species.

They're ok for now but when they moult they will need more space. Mine have grown from 1 inch 5 months ago and are now around 4 inches in just 3 moults.

What temps is it being kept at? If it's an inch now, you should be good for the next molt or two. :)

I have to say, I keep three of these, and they grow fairly fast but they pale in comparison to my Phormictopus and Pamphobeteus species. These species not only molt more often, but the size increase between molts is simply amazing.

My room is pretty much kept at 80 degrees F in the day and 77 degrees F at night. I have larger enclosures ready for the T so thats not an issue.

Here's my .02 when it comes to housing. These are just my preferences. I like to transfer as little as possible.

I put my slings into the largest possible container that I can. When you put a small sling int a larger container you really just need to make sure they are able to find their food, but not so big that they burrow and you can't find them. (This is a delicate balance IMHO) I usually use something that I can get roughly 5 molts out of. After that they go into a juvi sized container. This container is big enough that I can just place the sling container inside and the T can climb out on their own. Then their adult enclosures when they are about half to 2/3 grown. This way I can lessen the risk of bolting Ts when rehousing. Everyone finds a system that works best for them and this is just what I do.

Oh, at those temps I'm guessing they will grow like weeds! :)

As I've gotten more into the hobby, I tend to give mine larger enclosures as well. I started this practice with some of my faster and more defensive Ts (P. murinus, Poecilotheria species) then with my fast growers (Phormictopus, Pamphobeteus, Lasiodora) and now I do it with most of my Ts. The fewer times I have to move them, the less stress the Ts have to go through when their homes and dens are dug up and destroyed, and the fewer chances for escapes or bites.

I agree completely, FaaFaa, that it's a delicate balance and takes some thought and that it's a matter of personal preference. :)

Thanks Guys! When the T first arrived I was torn wether to go big just 'right'. I was worried about stressing the little dude out so I went small. But at the this point I am thinking I should have went larger. Guess its the learning curve!

We've all done it before...don't worry! Heck, sometimes you prepare an enclosure for a T you expect to be one size, then you are shipped something much larger. Although it's always nice to get an "upgrade", it can make for a scramble.

As you get more species of Ts and get used to their growth rates, it will become much easier to judge what size cage to start them in. :)

When I was just starting out with slings I misjudged the size, but the other direction. I always prepared enclosures that were too big. Now I just don't sweat it. LOL It is amazing how much things change.
