A quick tutorial on how to pack slings for shipment.

1st: You start with a box. The smaller the box the cheaper the freight.

2nd: you need to line the box with Styrofoam(2x4 sheets can be purchase at home depot or loews for $3). This adds extra protection from a rough ride, and more importantly the weather.

3rd: Packing the sling/juvie. It's very important to have an appropriately sized cup or vial. You don't want one that's too big. for 0.25" slings you can use straws, but for now we're gonna go with a portion cup.
Using a napkin, push the center of the napkin down into the center of the cup

Using a spray bottle, spray the napkin lightly (1/2 spray is plenty, just don't pull the plunger all the way back)

guide the sling or juvie into the cup, and then close the excess napkin around it. Put the lid on firmly.

4th: place the Cup in the smaller part of the divided box.

Fill the larger portion with packing peanuts, or newspaper 1st.

Then fill in over the sling

Make sure It's very tightly packed. we don't want the sling moving around too much.
5th: finish
Place the final piece of Styrofoam on top of the box . Close tape and address the box.

This is not the only way to ship spiders, but it is how I do it, and it works very well for me.
If you have any questions or anything to add please feel free.

Thanks for posting this! :) I have a couple questions: What is the outdoor temperature guideline you'd use when deciding whether to use hot or cold packs in shipping; and when using either one, should you put something between the pack and the tarantula's container or is direct contact okay? Great tutorial!

Great Question!
I use a Heat pack under 40* and a cold pack over 90*
I typically put the heat/cold pack on the other side of the divider. However, you don't need a divider just put the pack on the opposing side of the T.
