I posted awhile ago about Daisy, my mature female rose hair. I wanted to know if she was in premolt, and it turns out that she was. Yesterday morning, she put down her silk and flipped over. Took her ten hours, but she did it without any issues. This is the first molt she's done since I've had her. It was so neat! I stayed up until three in the morning just to make sure she would be all right. I took tons of pictures, so here they are!

Thanks. I have a question. So, the shed exoskeleton has been in the tank for two days now. I'd like to take it out before it gets too brittle because my hobby is preserving insects/their molts. However, Daisy has been right beside it or under it most of the time. She finally got away from it and I went to take it out. She FREAKED OUT and tried to attack my tongs. I withdrew and she frantically went to the molt, guarding it with three of her legs. She's beside it right now and is holding it to her side. Is this normal? It's just that she seems really attached to it...did I try too soon? She's my first T so I don't know if there's a waiting period on taking the molt out.

I own a red knee, not a rosie, so I'm sure that's why my case was different but when my red knee molted she had no attachment to the exoskeleton, I took it out pretty much right after(within 4 hours of molting) and she went into her new hide(prior to molting she stayed in the box I bought her in, after she was all about the cool skull hide I got her, she never went into the skull before molting, and after she never had any interest in returning to the box) and hasn't seemed to notice.

and I use bear hands btw if it's a factor, I don't have tongs for her

They are all different. Most of mine ignore them some attack them Ive even had one bring it out of the burrow for me. None of mine have ever been that attatched to a skin tho!

Thanks to you both. I tried again to remove it. She was on the other side of the enclosure from the skin. I tried to pull it out, but the thorax is caught on the silk mat. It pulled at the ground so she felt it...came running and grabbed it again. I have no idea what she's thinking. I thought that T's were solitary creatures. This skin seems to be her "friend" or something disturbing. She might need spider therapy for her attatchment...

Rosies have so much personality. Basts rosie was in love with her water bowl. Some of mine especialy " Money Spider" are insane. Maybe Daisy wants a boyfriend.

Yeah, she has tons of personality. Any suggestions on how to get the skin out without a big tarantula bite on my hands? I have ten inch tongs, but I still have to reach down in there a bit. Daisy is fully mature, so she's very large. She's also very nervous and completely mental. I'm a little intimidated, honestly lol. She hasn't left the skin since she molted except for a few inches. It's still on the web, so she feels it the second I try to remove it. I have a few more pics. One is of her in general, but the other is of her with the skin...has one leg on it and two others spread out in a "YOU SHALL NOT PASS!" stance...

What a little moo. Maybe she thinks its a husband lol? You Will get an opportunity to take it you just have to be quick. I steer my ts out the way with a ruler but gently and if shes prone to flick hair wear a glove and mind your eyes.....

Thanks, I'll have to try the ruler bit. I had a chance today to take it out, but the second I lifted the lid I lost my window. Even though I hadn't even tried anything yet, Daisy knew what I was up to somehow. She backed onto the skin, covered it in two of her legs, and spread out a few other legs to block me like before. She hasn't left the skin since. In fact, she has webbed her legs with the skin's legs...and now they're spooning/snuggling. I think it's almost time for the ruler to come out.....lol

You got anyone who can help? She sounds like a typical barmy rosie. Big ruler is useful but beware of hair flicking. None of mine have ever been that bad over a skin, Money even brought his out of the burrow for me. I think he wanted to trade it for a cricket but he had to wait a few days for dinner so he might not be so keen to hand it over next time.

I managed to get a video, but since I had one hand on the camera I couldn't get the skin out still. I just messed with it to show how pissy she gets when I try anything. She didn't notice anything at first, so this is hardly the worst she's done. I once had her run at me full speed and try to attack my tongs, hence me being a bit nervous here, lol. I'd say that she only got mad because I dropped it and she felt the vibration, but I can mess with her water dish/space and it's no big deal. There's a few pictures too. There's one from right after I stopped filming, when I planned to remove it, and Daisy went back to in a hurry. I should have kept it rolling...it was hilarious. The other is of Daisy cuddling with the skin from earlier.

I know! So close. But, big news: Daisy and the skin had a fight. She has made the skin "sleep on the couch" aka placed it between the log and the glass. I believe that she is either saving it for a later purpose or they are breaking up. *sniffsniff* Either way, it's in a great spot and I should be able to easily get it now. Finally, five days later, I can remove the molt. What a pill my girl is...lol
