Question about Chilean species

Okay, so I've been looking for a Euathlus Sp. red (with little luck) and have learned that they're harder to find now since Chile has closed for export.

My question is, if a vendor has WC E. Sp. red (or any other Chilean species) for sale, would that mean that they came from surrounding countries, or that they've been in captivity since before the export ban? Is it okay to purchase these spiders if they're actually from Chile, or would that be unethical?

I'm sorry this question is probably silly... my first guess is they've just been in captivity for that long since I can't find an exact date of the export ban and can find articles from as late as 2013 about importing from Chile (so it's pretty new, right?).

I would say if it is from a good seller they just got them before the ban. I do have to say though I try to get all of mine captive breed, there are less change of illness in the spider that way.

You both make really good points... so far all of the ones from online dealers are either WC or not willing to give any information about ANYTHING, so it looks like I might have to go that route if I really want one. I'm seeing other WC Chilean Ts for sale online, but I'm also seeing more CBs of those... can't seem to find any CB sp. reds. I think I'm going to take a chance and hold off ordering (the weather here is way too hot to have anything shipped, anyway right now) and go to repticon next weekend. I doubt I'll bring anything home, but we will see. If they're still for sale when I get back, and I haven't bought anything I'll grab them

I am not sure how repticon is in your city, but it it is any thing like in mine it may have them. When I went it was 90% tarantula.

That would be so cool if that's how it is here. Looking at pictures of the last one that was here, it seems to be a lot of snakes and geckos, but maybe they just didn't take as many pictures of non-reptile creatures. I'm hoping there are more vendors coming than they list on the site, though... really not sure how any of this works at all! I'm really excited to go, either way. I love reptiles, but can't have any, so even if I can't find a T I want there, I'll be able to look around and have fun.

I got a 2 week old ball python. She's a cutie! Since she was a normal color and not a morph, she was really cheap... but to me just as beautiful as the most expensive morph there. She was also the most active of the baby ball pythons that were there.

I'll get a tarantula eventually. It's too hot here right now for shipping, so I'm hoping a Euathlus sp. red will pop up somewhere once it's cooled off a little. If not, I'll probably get a Paraphysa scrofa since there seem to be more of them for sale... or maybe Euathlus truculentus.
