Hi everyone!
I have a couple quick questions about my Psalmopoeuses (Psalmopoei?). I currently have 2, a pulcher and an irmina. The pulcher just molted and has yet to make a clear appearence, but is still in her baby colors and under 3 inches. The irmina I have had less than a week and is in the 1.5 inch range.
I have them both in deli cups, half filled with coco fiber, with crossed plastic straws for webbing supports. I have ventilation holes every half inch at the top and 5 poked in the lid.
I have had the pulcher months and she seems happy.
The irmina has ignored the straws and has made a wee "lean-to" web hut on the side where she has hung out the last couple days. I went to feed her today and dropped the cricket at the entrance to her lean to. She came charging out, envenomated the rubber tipped tongs, killed the cricket, and retreated back into her lean to.
Please note I do not tong feed. The tongs were what I felt was a safe distance away from her and she was as quick as lightening.
She hasn't touched the cricket since. She's hanging out on the side of her cup over the lean to. Her fangs look fine, being symmetrical and no outward evidence of injury.
So, is this normal behavior for an irmina? I know arboreals are fast, but is this aggression typical? Does her set up sound ok? I did it just like the pulcher, who has seemed to do fine. I keep the humidity at 70%+, the temp in the T room 75-80 degrees.
