I’m not sure if this is the correct place to post this. I’ve been out of the for a bit over 10 years. Just got back into it about 3 months ago or so. I have kept both OW and NW T’s. Seems like there are a lot of new stuff on the market. I’m looking to get back into keeping OW tarantula’s I’m going to go about it as though it’s my first OW. Any suggestions on which would be considered a beginner’s OW
So a little background on me I kept tarantulas for about 10 years. About 10 years ago I had to get out of the hobby for health reasons and also because honestly I got overwhelmed. At the most I had around 130 tarantula’s not OW and NW. OW wise I had everything from pokies to obt to darlingi’s and a few others.

My experience is that the real key to working with OW's is simply being calm & steady. If you do not startle them, they tend to be very sedentary. Long bamboo tweezers also help, as if they do strike, then they come to no harm. Plus giving them plenty of cover within their enclosures. My wifes P metallica used to be a regular, I'm going for a walk if the lid is off. But since I gave it lots of cover within the enclosure, it runs for cover the moment the lid of the enclosure is removed.

We now also tend to use The Tarantula Room arboreal enclosures, as they have a downward pointing lip between lid & the sides of the enclosures. Thus you can remove a lid, even if the T is at the very top of the enclosure. T's like somewhere tight to feel secure, so they feel comfortable at the top, even if you are doing something close to them.

If you want old world and if you feel comfortable I would suggest keeping obt again because they are very cheap baboon species or p.regalis is pretty cheap pokie its always nice to start with something cheap
