Old Male Missing Pedipalp

When I said he will die with one pedipalp, what I meant was. If he is a mature male, then he stands virtually no chance of regrowing it. So it is how he will end his life.

Once a male mature, all that matters to them is finding a mate. And finding a mate sometimes ends in them being killed, or in them losing a limb. The tibial hooks that we refer to as, "hooking out. Are there to help protect the male from the female during mating. They hook under her fangs & gives him a little protection. A tarantula can survive minus a limb with no problems at all. So living his final months minus a pedipalp is no problem to him at all & may even have extended his life. As, had he been used for breeding, then he could have died.
