This is simply another case of the media playing to the lowest common denominator. I have no doubt the author has a fear and/or hatred of spiders.

The author makes the claim that the spiders developed their strong venom for use on humans despite the fact they were really targeting potential predators such as birds, rodents, and lizards and the quote from the researcher saying it was evolutionary coincidence.

This IMO is just another biased author with an axe to grind playing into peoples fears.

I believe I read another similar article recently about NW T's and how their venom was much more effective on vertebrates as opposed to the spiders insect pret.

Thank you that’s what I thought please don’t think I posted this to further bad information or fear
I read it and was a bit taken back just wanted some reinforcement on my original opinion

I think your initial thought was spot on. This article plays into the irrational fears some people harbor. Remember this fear is a learned behavior not a natural instinct.

It's a pretty one sided article. I dont see any real validity to it "specifically " targeting humans. We clearly arnt its prey. I'd say your initial feeling was right. It's just playing on people's fears
All I can think of is the when animals attack bull sh1t programs
I did read a similar article that said that the males have a more potent venom was because their territories were becoming more vast and they encounter different types of predators so they evolved a stronger venom
Again I’m pretty sickened with this story on a whole i live in the country and have grown up in the woods and it’s been my experience most animals/inverts flee first
