I am feeling so sad right now,

My beautiful Purpurea has arrived and she is dead. She has beautiful coloration, I never thought I would feel so sad about losing a tarantula but I'm devastated :(

what could have caused this? I hope it wasn't the stress of being moved.

Devastated :(

Take a picture of it and send it to whoever you bought the spider from. See if you can get a refund or another spider sent to you. I have ordered all of my tarantulas online and have only ever had one arrive dead. I'm really sorry this happened, but don't let it deter you from ordering online.

I was so excited this morning, I couldn't wait to see her.

She didn't look very well wrapped up in her container.

I have emailed them a pic and awaiting reply.

Does anyone recommend anywhere in the UK to get them? I feel a bit put of getting them from there now. She wasn't cheap either.

Poor T I feel so bad!

Enn49 Thank you

I've gone from being terrified of spiders to feeling very protective of them, it's strange.

Even if I receive another one I don't think I'll feel the same, I'm gonna be worried I'll receive another dead one. It's a horrible feeling.

I got my chile rose from the spider shop with no problems but I guess it's something we can't control.

I hope she's doing lots of happy T dances in spidey heaven.

I'll have a look at those sites now, thanks.

@Charlotte I'm still terrified of spiders but I love my Ts :)

You can never replace any pet as they're all so different but it does help you get over one if you get another. I had a tiny E. sp red, only 0.25'', die recently and even though it was so tiny it had bags of personality and I'm missing the cheeky little thing so much that I have just ordered another. I hope it has a similar character.

@Enn49 hehe if I saw one run across the floor I'd probably jump up still! Having tarantulas is definitely helping me though.

Sorry to hear you lost a little one, I hope the new one arrives full of personality and is just as cheeky :)

They do have their own little personalities, this is true! I've been trying to tell my fiancé but he doesn't believe tarantulas can have personalities, I could sit and watch them for hours if I had the time. He just laughs at me laughing at them.

I have emailed the exotic animals site you recommended and they have replied straight away! Hopefully they will have one for me next week, I think you're right, it will be good for me to get another one :)

@Charlotte I first discovered how much they vary in character when I got 3 H. incei slings, all the same age and size but they all behaved differently.

I hope you get your new one soon but if you have any problems give me a shout as I can also recommend a couple of sites in Poland that I've dealt with, they take 3 days to arrive.

@Enn49 are they ok travelling for 3 days? I hate the thought of them being scared and cooped up in those containers.

I really want an avic versi sling but I've heard they are harder to look after so I ordered a sub adult. They seem so curious, coming to check you out when you take the lid off.

It's nice being able to discuss tarantulas with someone, I don't personally know anyone that has them or is interested in them :)

@Charlotte They seem fine, all well packed.

I lost my first avic sling during a bad moult. My new one, an A. laerta, moulted in transit and got stuck in the wrapping losing 2 legs but it's doing fine and will hopefully moult again soon and regain those legs.

I'm usually around if you want a chat. I'm lucky that my adult son has Ts too, all living with me lol.

@Enn49 thanks :) you'll be sick of me soon ha!

I think if I lived at home my mum would kick me out for even thinking about bringing a tarantula in the house lol

Just waiting to hear if they can get me a purperea :)

I don't buy from pet stores anymore and I honestly don't regret it.

@Charlotte Don't worry I always enjoy a chat.

My mum was terrified of snakes and when I moved back in to look after her I brought all my collection with me, she'd have had a fit if she'd known how many. I only have one now but 40+ Ts lol.

I'm in the U.S., so I can't really help you there unfortunately.

@Chubbs well that sucks! Any idea if they can be shipped over here?
Most of the breeders I order from don't ship internationally as far as I know. Even then, it would make a lot more sense just to order from someone in your own part of the world IMO. International shipping is very expensive.

@Charlotte I've had a look at a few other sites and not had any luck finding you one, not even on the 2 Polish sites. As for looking after the Ts, they not as time consuming as the snakes were, I tend to feed in 2-3 batches on different days, the teeny ones one day, bigger another and the large ones on another. The worst thing is keeping the cats out of the room while I do them.

@Charlotte I've had a word with a guy I've dealt with before who imports from Germany to see if he can source one for you. He checks them out before he sends them on, he even sent me photos.

@Enn49

That makes sense to do them on different days, do you have a special room for them?

My fiance has a cat and so far she hasn't noticed them at all, I'm trying to keep it that way. Cats are so curious!

Thank you for looking around for me, I really appreciate it. Let me know if he has any luck finding me one :) I'm also looking for a versicolor adult I've come across loads of slings but no adults at all, such beautiful tarantulas.

I'm off to have a snoop at your Ts in the album now :)
