the general rule is, dont disturb it unless it smells of rot. a rotting tarantula will smell like spoiled shrimp or fish

concur. A dead T after 24 hours would knock you over with stink once you opened the enclosure.

Have you tried looking up through the bottom of the container, you may be lucky and spot it or at least a tunnel?

well obviously a smaller spider will stink less, but yours appears to be around 2.5" or so, IMO yours would stink.

For younger tarantulas i just use 13 oz delicups, makes it alot easier to check on them, too.
