Wow I thought they were the "black labs" of the tarantula world. I got 2 and they were both pretty chill at first. They both have turned nasty. One in particular. Every time I open the enclosure to take out the water dish to refill it, he/she starts flicking hairs. Like as soon as the tongs go down to the dish.

One I bought as a 1/2" sling and the other is a 1". The bigger one is the nastier of the two. The smaller one goes into threat pose when I open the enclosure but doesn't flick hairs.

Have either of them molted recently? Usually, they don't flick hair until right before or right after molting. Pretty laid back. Sometimes they will have what I call a "tarantula tantrum" and get a bit feisty but its rare.

Hi
you can try to give them food before you do your maintenance. Mine more tetchy tarantulas don't care much what Im doing if they have their fangs full.

Hi. I've had them since February of this year and both of them molted within about 6 weeks of each other over the summer. The 1/2" in like late June and the 1" in early August. But, now that you mention it, they were chill before they molted. But never have calmed back down to the way that they were before. And the molts were back in the summer like I said.

Also how big are they. The calmness comes with gaining size.A lot of my juveniles are skittish and bolty but much calmer the bigger they get.
Hi. I bought them back in February. One was a half inch and the bigger one was a one inch. They have both molted since then -- both did it back in the summer. As soon as I open their enclosures, they both get upset. When I put the prey items in there, they first run away from them (fast) and then, after I have closed the lids, they will grab them.

We have 4, 1 af ,1 juv female and 2 juv male. All are pretty calm. The males we have are both good aggressive but not skittish at all. Af is one of our most laid back Ts. But despite the reputation there’s always some that go against the grain. @T-Baby did have some that were particularly nasty
