So… having decided not to pop them in with any Tarantulas right now I have 30 Dairy Cows… Can I keep them in a enclosure with leaf litter etc. Yes I am an awful impulse shopper but they also sent me twice as many as I ordered as one species was not in stock. lol.

It is what I do with my Dairy Cow isopods. I also buy the spider shops Iso-Boost, food to feed them with.

For leaves. Use Oak, as these are easily available all year round. Oak trees keep a few leaves to drop in Spring, so they can feed themselves when they most need it. It is called marcescence, if you want to look it up. And it is why Oak & Beech are often the first trees to inhabit poor soil areas. It also means oak leaves are available for isopod colonies all year round.

I dry my leaves & always have a bag available for my isopods.

Thank you so much. Thats really great information. I’ve got them in a new home now with a plant and the leaf litter they came with but I need to get cracking on leaf collecting. They’re actually kind of fascinating.

I've learnt a new word, 'Marcescence', thank you I just looked it up! :) Never knew that, so fascinating. I also also keep isopods and find it very calming to see the cycle of decomposition/life and how that works in nature. I find my isopods and also headlight roaches munch through leaves very fast :p so have collected loads this autumn!
